Hi Tom ~

Yes, I remember, too, how deeply pleased and actually excited Sherry was to have made that connection with you. She laughed as she talked about your and her mutual love of books, including some of the same ones.

It wasn't always immediately apparent how interesting a conversation with Sherry would become; yet, the longer you talked, the more it always would; finally, to where you could rely on that fact because you had gotten to know her. She was very patrician and still animated. I enjoyed how she would laugh to herself as she would share something, taking delight in her remembrance of it; and, alternatively, be very serious about something else. She was a lovely woman.

I was looking forward to spending time with her again, too.

Love,
Lizzy

After this sad news I've again taken a look at my Hydra pic's and found a nice one. First I didn't know, if it will be ok to show it here. But when I read Ken's and Tom's reply I think they and other will like it.

Thanks for this photo, Kerstin. It's great to have a photo of all three of them together. Sherry drank a lot of water, as was her way.

That poem made me cry -- so beautiful and moving. I didn't know her, and clearly that was my loss.
....Now that my ladder's gone
I must lie down where all the ladders start
In the foul rag and bone shop of the heart

I have only just found out about Sherry's death, as I've been away from my normal Forum activity. I was also there at the Hydra gathering and am very sad to hear this news. I wish Sherry's daughter and family my sincerest condolences.

I had not read the poem before and it is indeed very moving.

Rest in peace, Sherry.

Hello,

please don't be surprised by the author of this post. It is Sherry's daughter, Mariana, writing you all to thank you for every word that has been said in this thread. I don't think you could fully understand how much it has meant to us and what a great help this has all been. Thanks to your posts, we have been reminded of my mom's great talent and love for poetry and it helped us to organize a memorial service in Geneva that we hoped she would have liked.

We had a great singer and pianist during the service. She opened with Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me To the End of Love", my mother's favorite song as some of you have remarked. My father read my mother's poem "So Much More To..." which was followed by LC's "There For You". My brother read my mother's poem "Time" and myself I read her "The Child" which were both followed by LC's "Nightingale".

I'd like to finish by sharing with you three lines that I found in the notebook that my mother took with her each time she had to go into the hospital. She kept it by her bedside and jotted some things down when she had the strength. I only found this the night before the ceremony, and I believe it was a secret message that she wanted us to have.

Do not weep for me

Know that I feel blessed

To have known you

Thanks to you all,
Mariana

Dear Mariana ~

Thank you so much for bringing both your own and Sherry's comforting words to share with us. I cannot express how much it means.

As I know you know, your mother was a beautiful woman. Even though my heart leapt and I leaned forward when I saw her name here, I still knew better and am gratified to hear from you. I don't know if you've read all her poems here or not, but please read through all of her postings. She was such a gentle, loving spirit, and she shared that part of herself with us here. I feel privileged and grateful to have known your mother.

Thank you for describing even more the ceremony. She would love it.

Thank you, again, for sharing her deeply moving message, as you've said, for all of us whom she knew and loved and who loved her. So elegant even in her final words.

Love,
Lizzy
