Last thursday Kurt Wagner (of Lambchop fame) gave a solo performance in Stockholm. He finished the set by giving a personal yet accurate impretation of Leonards Chelsea Hotel. After the aplause died down, he concluded with the words: "Leonard Cohen is a genius" and left the stage.
Apparently he will end all of his concerts during his European tour in the same way. He has recently recorded the song. Cortez

On the Lambchop website, it quotes John L Waters of the Guardian (who I think was the host for the Glass/Cohen conversation at the Barbican last weekend?) saying (of Lambchop) "Their approach to songcraft recalls the obsessive strategies of Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks, while the misanthropic croak of singer Kurt Wagner may owe something to Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits".
Misanthropic, maybe, but I seem to recall Kurt's voice is in a somewhat higher register that Cohen's or Waits', and he might manage more than Leonard's self-confessed three notes...
I note that Kurt is playing the Union Chapel in London on the 11th of November, and, not having seen him solo before, I'm tempted to get a ticket now, so thanks for bringing it to my attention, cortez
Haveing got a ticket for to this concert in London I am looking to see a good show and to hear Chelsea Hotel as the finale.
Lambchop is a very great band to see. I see them four time and now again.
I was at the concert yesterday in Karlsruhe, Germany. It was a great show, Kurt Wagner seems to be a very kind person with a good sense of humor. He did a great show with a lot of (new) songs unknown to me. On the tour CD "Kurt" a live version of Chelsea Hotel #2 is included (haven't listened to it yet). On the cover it reads: "all songs Kurt Wanger 2007 (...) except of course Chelsea Hotel #2 Leonard Cohen cause he's a legend"
