Leonard, he say yes!!!

When I met Leonard in the Green Note Cafe, and after spending the first few moments blubbering like an idiot to him, I (lightheartedly) mentioned to him that he will have to give us some definite news on a tour, as it is hard work for all us Cohen fans to anxiously tap our feet and check our watches continually. He said, to my complete surprise, that he WILL tour and it will probably (if I remember correctly) be sometime late next year.

I then, being Irish and a bit of a chancer, said I hope he (leonard) will not forget to include Ireland in a tour, and he said yes, he would 'absolutely' go to Ireland!

Now, being a realist I understand that Leonard is famous for being very nice and accommadating to people (as he more than proved on Saturday), so therefore I understand that he was probably just being 'nice' when he said this but he sounded very definite and sincere. This is more conformation for me than anything I have heard, or read, about a tour. After all, I literally heard it from the horses mouth!

By the way, it was an incredible experience meeting The Len on Saturday. He is incredibly generous with his time, and endearing and attentive in his conversation.

Long Live The Len!!!

Nice one, Eric. I noticed you chatting to Leonard like you were old buddies!

Good job, Eric, in eliciting those specifics in your conversation with Leonard. Leonard is certainly nice and kind and accommodating... however, I wouldn't account his comments to any of those, beyond his willingness to share factual information with you. The way he said what he did rang true on his intentions.

At the 6pm public talk, he stated: "I have some plans. God willing, I will be on tour next summer."

Birdonawire
I listened in to your conversation with Leonard and it went something like this

(Birdonawire) - I'm so pleased to meet you. :D
(Leonard) - and what is your name :?:
(B) - Birdonawire :)
(L)- I asked for your name..not a request! :o
(B) - but that is the name I use :o
(L)- Did I give you permission to use my song for your name? 8)
(B) - sorry, Leonard. It won't happen again :o
(L) - so what is your name? :?:
(B) - Eric :D
(L) - you're doing it again! I'm not asking for requests!! :?
(B) - You wrote a song called 'Eric' ???? :?
(L) - Yes. I wrote a song about Eric. :D
(B) - You wrote a song about me????
(L) - I wrote a song about Eric and you've stolen the name for yourself. :)
(B) - How was I to know???
(L) - Call yourself a Cohenite??????? :?:
(B) - I'm so sorry, Leonard. I had no idea. :o
(L) - I'll forgive you this once. I'll sing it next year when I tour. :)
(B) - You're touring next year???????
(l) - Damn...now I've told someone!! I was going to keep it quiet.
(B) - Leonard, that's brilliant!!! Will you be singing 'Eric'? :D
(L) - For you, Eric, I will. :)
(B) - Have you sang it before??? :?:
(L) - Call yourself a Cohenite??? Of course I have!!! 8)
(B) - You've sang 'Eric' before?
(L) - Of course I have! 8)
(Leonard starts to quietly sing 'Bird on a Wire')
(B) - But that's Bird on a Wire!! :?
(L) - Yes. The bird's name is Eric, Eric :)
(B)- Eric Eric? :?
(L)- Noooo...just Eric, Birdonawire :)
(B)- Eric is the bird on a wire? :?
(L) - Yes. I called him Eric. I was going to sing 'like an Eric on a wire' but it didn't sound right. The Bird on a wire is called Eric, and you, Eric is also Birdonawire which makes it all confusing that you chose the name of Eric and also Birdonawire so please be careful next time you meet me that you don't sound like a request. 8)
(B)- Sorry, Leonard. I'll change my name to Bert. :)
(L) - Sorry..you can't have that name!! 8)
(B) - Is that a request?
(Leonard smiles)

and that is really how Eric knew beforehand that Leonard may tour.

(I knew I should have gone to bed earlier)

I seem to have a few photos of you lurking near Leonard Eric you just kept under the radar. Well done you. I struggled to string a sentence together when I spoke to him. I asked him to sign something and he said he would have to put his glasses on as his eyesight wasn't as good as it was  I know the feeling. Everyone who had an actual conversation with him I am impressed with I just mumbled words of no consequence.

Pete you have lost the plot!

Diane did you get many picture on that gigantic camera of yours and are they all in black and white.

Would that be Eric the Half a Bee or my pet cat Eric?

Well I thought Eric Burdonawire did House of the Rising Sun.

Paula, my camera has a fault, and only rarely takes a colour picture. I regret not snapping the Cohen Glass.

A enormous mistake considering that you were going to a Glass concert! I hope he wasn't too broken up about it.

Well, if he was, Krazy Glue works well, though unsightly under the circumstances. [This is certainly newsworthy, though, right? How different it all feels when you're the one doing it, eh ;-) ?]

I was thinking of getting my glass engraved with a suitable message.

What is it with cameras mine starting playing up too. I have a couple of you lurking in the background which I will email to you tomorrow.

Superb idea, Paula. "Leonard drank here" probably not your best choice, though ;-) .

How about "Fairytales on both sides of the glass," though.

Eric,
IF Leonard does make it to Ireland, let's hope it's not to the Point.
I think he (and the band) would be lost in there.
Not sure where else he might play, though it would be great to see him back in the Stadium!

Or, maybe:

"Tell them fairytales on both sides of the glass... "

Starting with "Fairytales" is, visually, too heavily weighted at the beginning with a large word... and doesn't make enough sense without a verb. However, it seems fairytales is actually fairy tales . The phrase would work well in several ways :) .

Of course, you could also engrave it with the what, when, and where info. A good idea to at least include that, anyway. Describe to us the glass. I had it pictured as a clear, kind of more smallish one that say a 7-7 might be served in... and one particularly easy to pocket ;-) .

The more I think about it, Paula... you may well have a collector's item ~ the first time Leonard showed up at a fan gathering 8) . A surprize appearance at that :D . With the politics of Events being as they are, one never knows but what this may be the ONLY time he does that, at any kind of a fan gathering. With the Glass/glass connection, even moreso. Congratulations, girl :D .

I was planning to ask if I could drink from the glass when I came to see you, but I'm having second and third thoughts, now.
