Time

All she really wants
is time to stand still
listen to the birdsong
their chirps, tweets and caws
voices sweet or shrill
but she must hurry on
birdsong takes too long

all she really wants
is a bench to sit upon
feel the spring sun
warm her winter worn face
watch pups and toddlers
release their boundless energy
but she must hasten back
no time nor place to rest
lose track

all she really wants
is to lie upon the dock
hear gentle waves
kiss the shore
buzz of dragon flies
dancing in the reeds
scolding squirrels tossing acorns
from the jack pine trees
but here she cannot linger
she has many pressing deeds

all she really wants
is to stand upon a footbridge
to gaze past her reflection
into the depths of beyond
hear anew the voices
recollect the faces
of cherished phantoms
from her past

all she really wants is time

to stand still

I really like this Sherry

I have written many poems and a few songs dealing with time
As we get older time gives us wisdom buts takes away youth
Time allows us to reflect but no opportunity to change the past
Time only moves fast when we do

Thank you very much, Phil. It certainly seems to be the
one thing that none of us ever will have enough of.

One of my favourite songs is Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle.
Are you familiar with it?

Hi Sherry ~

This is [vaguely] reminiscent of the ditty I wrote at age 8:

"Time for tarry
Time for play
None have I
This busy day"

Scarey that an eight-year-old would have that come to mind  . As soon as I mentally composed it, I got up off that favourite, large rock of mine and went inside... to do something  . Imagine. I understand and appreciate your poem.

Love,
Lizzy
