Phil
I didn't see the led zep documentary.
This is one group I wished that I had 'got into' in my youth. They were always on the edge of my tastes but I didn't delve deep enough. The first three or four albums I know quite well then they went their way and I went mine :-)

This months Classic Rock magazine has a DVD on the front cover with samples from the series of 'Live at Montreux' DVDs.... amongst the 15 excerpts are Deep Purple, ELP, Rory Gallagher, Moody Blues, Alice Cooper, Mike Oldfield, Lou Reed and ..the one which leapt out at me... Canned Heat... such a treat to see live footage of Canned Heat.

I'll have to go look in the mojo forum.
You may wish to go to the yesfans forum which has a large section for other groups.

Pete

p.s yes..I did know the connection between the Yardbirds and Page (he says smugly  )

Phil I am afraid I listen to Radio 2, just a habit I have slipped into  . And I don't visit the mojo forum or buy music mags. Def. getting old. Hi Pete, how you doin? We missed you singing in Berlin...

If you like Led Zep have you followed Robert Plant in his solo career? He's still got the Voice. Mighty Rearranger (made with band The Strange Sensation), his most recent album, is amazing, really raw and powerful; it was by far my favourite album of 2005. It's Led Zep, full-bodied and matured.

Cheers,

Diane

and I listen to radio 2!!!!

in fact, Leonard Cohen got a mention on his birthday last week. One of the 'phone in' quizs in the Steve Wright show asked 'which famous poet, songwriter had a birthday that day and wrote Suzanne, Hallelujah and Bird on a Wire'. The person ringing in didn't know!!!

Phil, you mentioned 'Yes'
We're off to see Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman next month. They're doing a tour...an acoustic set with just guitar and piano. Am really looking forward to it. I hope they do some of the songs Jon recorded with Vangelis..that would be a treat and a half.

Diane
Sorry I didn't make it to Berlin.... we'll meet again..don't know where..don't know when....but I know we'll meet again some Cohen day....

Hi Phil n Pete,

ah, Jonathan Ross, what a sharp wit he is.

Yes. Blimey haven't listened to Yes in a while. Close to the Edge; did we used to play that a lot when way back when. Fantastic.

Then there was Rush, Jethro Tull, and Marillion, other great old prog rock bands. I just don't listen to these bands any more, although I never stopped listening to classic rock. Why is that, then  ? Play me some stuff and let me drift back twenty years...

am revisiting led zep 111 at present - "since i've been loving you" is one of the most gut shredding rock tracks ever........ the guitar intro is exquisite. the vocals  ........ well, you just HAVE to listen to it!!!

Hi Phil,

You are very welcome, dear. You got the guys the wrong way around in your haste to get to school; Jimmy Page is the one on guitar, Plant the sexy one complete with spray-on jeans. (Although Plant also plays guitar on the second vid I linked to.)

I love the reaction of that Asian woman in the audience near the end of the vid...

Play the kids the video and tell encourage them to take up the guitar and forget about their studies... No I didn't know it was the anniv of Bonham's death. Great pity he was lost... Who has ever come close to matching sexy bluesy rock the way those guys did it? They were a one-off perfect combination. I think Physical Graffiti is my fave album.
