Michael at the Dublin Event in 2014

We have received another sad message. Michael Wolkind, one of the most colorful characters in our Cohen community is gone. Michael aka Mickey-One always had new ideas and sometimes tricks. At many of our events he acted as a host and kept the good atmosphere going. He was already involved in the Montreal Event in 2000. Two years later at the Hydra Event we saw his memorable performance as the leader of the Ladies' Choir. The Cohen world and its events must have balanced his demanding and often difficult work as a respected criminal lawyer in London. Our condolences to his loved ones.

RIP Mickey, old friend

This is very sad news for us. Michael was quite a character. Besides all the appearances Jarkko has mentioned before he also was on stage at the Green Note Cafe in London in 2007 when Leonard surprised us with a visit there. Leonard was very amused by Michael's funny variation of one of his songs. We were lucky to meet Michael one last time at the LC Event in Copenhagen, accompanied by his son David who took good care of him as Michael was already handicapped in walking. We will never forget him.

R.I.P Michael

We met Michael at the Hydra gathering a few years ago. A character indeed, and one who will be missed in the Cohen community.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I never met Michael in person, but I knew him fairly well through various online interactions we had over the years. He was one of the most interesting people that I have ever encountered: witty, intelligent, compassionate, and possessing such a unique and irreverent sense of humour. (However, despite Michael's consistent efforts, he never managed to convert me to Frank Zappa's music. ;-) ). It was a pleasure to have known him. My deepest condolences to his family, and to all those others who will miss him. Rest in peace, dear Michael.

My condolences to Michael's family and friends on this news of his passing. Michael would pop up on the forum, often under pseudonyms that I could never figure out or couldn't even be sure it was him...but it might have been? He was witty and had an amazing talent for satiric poetry which always amazed me.
He will be missed as a long standing member of the Cohen community.
RIP MIchael.

I'm so sorry to hear that Michael has passed. My deepest condolences to his family and his many friends here.

I will miss him and all of his quirky alter egos in the poetry section. I think my personal favourite was Sue (Sideways Sue), who was into competitive ironing competitions that often took place in dangerous locations. He was witty, mischievous, and often very kind. He turned language into a playground and was master of parodies and puns.

So long, Michael

This is such sad news. I had a LOT of fun goofing around with Michael in the newsgroup way back when. I'm sorry to say we had a little falling out and did not keep in touch, but I have fond memories of him from that time. He was extremely funny, endlessly inventive and audacious in his humor. My condolences to all his family and friends. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

michael was popular, as can be seen in the warm messages here. thank you! he was such a kind person, always witty and full of humour, even to the last. in his final message (18 months ago), before the 'apbd' set in completely, he wrote: "i have episodes of dementia, as i understand it to be, when i understand everything!"
though he died only recently, the process of losing this good friend began much earlier. :(
