Lucca festival, Dylan??

Hi All
For those who visited Lucca last year to see Leonard and, like me, loved the beautiful city, the programme for this year has not yet been released, but there are strong rumours Mr Dylan will be appearing.
This may encourage a few to return to the Lucca festival, might discourage others!!

I've decided the key to figuring out whether a given Dylan show promises well is to look at his schedule immediately prior to the gig you're thinking of. If he's had a few days of rest, it's a much better outlook. If he'd pace himself, maybe adopt Leonard's sort of schedule, there'd be a lot fewer complaints about his singing. Mind you, his voice will always be rough, but sometimes it's rough, intelligible and still able to carry a lot of meaning and emotion. Other times, not so much.

Received this message from john Baldwin, who some may know is in charge of the uk dylan fan community ' Desolation Row'

No news of the European Tour this week but I’m expecting we’ll hear early next week. What the European agents have told me is that the tour will start approximately June 19th and run through to July 17th. There might be some changes at the beginning to make it shorter or longer. That might help you plan your holidays.

There have been rumours about a show in Lucca, Italy and another in Pula, Croatia. Pula was on the cards at one point but won’t now happen. Lucca was never under consideration and, anyway, this tour will not touch Italy at all. That’s all I know at the mo.

I think it's part of Dylan's ongoing effort to get himself loose from that "voice of a generation" role by periodically leaving that generation speechless. The effect of the Christmas album has pretty much worn off, so maybe he figured the car ad will do the job for a while.

Seriously, this is the guy who instigated Farm Aid and wrote Workingman's Blues. I don't think he's ever really been anything of a socialist. He seems to be more of an old-fashioned populist, and I don't doubt he really was thinking of the guy working the line. Wish I knew where to find the Detroit Dylan was talking about, though. It sounds like a fun and exciting place.

I like the part at the end where he pauses dramatically, leans forward and says "We will build your car!". Exactly like the friendly, oily, neighborhood car dealer. Awesome.

Even Bob Dylan can't make me forget the time I rented a brand-new Chrysler LeBaron and had this conversation with the girl at the rental agency counter when I turned it in:
"Any problems?"
"No."
"Good! Most of these come back broken."

I loved it! I thought Dylan's delivery was wonderful. It is true that that the once innovative and vital Detroit is suffering. But the American auto industry has been revived and seems to be putting out good quality cars now. And if Dylan helps sells more cars I see nothing wrong with that.

Well the new ad featuring Dylan advertising Chrysler cars has been quite controversial , not least among dylan fans.
But to me it can be construed as helping the troubled american car industry and the workers in it and this seems totally compatible with things like writing working men's blues , north country blues , so many other songs and inspiring farm aid!
Anyway 'i'm still a dylan fan , like the ad and it's good to hear Bob's speaking voice !
"and you can't import the heart and soul of every man and woman working on the line"

Hi,

The times they have a-changed. :) With Dylan's longtime pattern of setting himself forth as an
enigmatic person, though, it's just more of the same. I don't fault him for his engimatic public
persona (when it serves marketing purposes) nor for the masks he's worn in public for his own
personal reasons. I've no problem with his doing the commercial. Seeing the commerical left me
slightly intrigued and a bit more than slightly amused.
