Around here, I should think that almost everyone knows who their mother is! It is Suzanne Elrod (not the Suzanne of the song).

I am always a bit bemused by this sort of question. My reaction is: so what? who cares? Sorry but that's just the way I feel.

That's rather unfair, Wendy?
Yes many of us would know through having read it but why do some of us buy books about Cohen if we don't want to know about him? I am not that concerned about his private life personally but one obviously gathers information along the way. Why do you buy his books for instance?
sbrownblei, LisaLCfan has given you the answer. Lots about her (and Leonard) if you google.

It's not remotely unfair Vicomte. I said it was how
I felt. My comment was about me.

What I appreciate on this forum is the gathering around the persona of the artist and his art work.
Jarkko does an amazing work with this site and managing this forum.
The persona is the artistic vehicule created by the artist, what is offered to people to share.
The persona not being the person, I figure out that once the artist delivered a performance, the job is done, and the artist is entitled to a private life like anybody else. To share private life or not with the rest of the world should be a decision made only by the artist.
I may say that I am from a cultural back ground that does not make such a mad fuss about stardom, like in Europe and in United States, with their paparazzimania, if I compare. I was even a little bit surprised when I read the first time that people over the world are going to look at his house or something like that, though I understand very well the fascination. But when the famous person is still alive, it feels like a intrusion into privacy to me. But as long as this does not harm anybody, what the heck ?
And regarding the mother of Adam and Lorca, by now, it is less a private information than a part of the legend.
I mean this is not something that can harm in any way the person and/or the artist and his persona, and his career, should it be discussed on the public place.
As a gregarious individual, I am always interested to know about people, when they are happy to speak about themselves and their life, and of course, particularly for people that I find interesting, famous or not.

Excuse me...didn't mean to start WW3...just curious. As a mother, I think mothers are important.

You're right, it doesn't harm anyone and LC
has spoken about them in interviews, in print and in video. I know that when I first discovered him, I also wanted to know something about his life.
And like Wendy said, it is her opinion, and everyone has a right to their opinions.
Kindest regards,
Mary
Edit - sbrownblei, don't worry, you didn't start anything.

Of course she didn't, after all ........
so what? who cares? is such a polite answer to a quite simple question. It's the very same answer that some bullies on the street would reply to a question posed of them as to what they are doing

Vicomte: I didn't say it to Sheila. I said it was my reaction. As I said, it was about me and I am perfectly entitled to comment about me and my feelings.
What is peculiar is you said yourself that you were not particularly interested in his private life .... which was exactly the sentiment I was expressing.
Sigh ....

Yes, sorry, obviously a coincidence that you posted "so what, who cares" after sbrownblei asked who the Mother was but seriously, why can't someone ask such a simple question without a reply such as yours, what was so wrong with it?
Many of us know things about L.C, so perhaps we have taken some of that knowledge for granted and others would like to know the answers to some of those things about LC, just like sbrownblei. I truly cannot see the problem about answering her civilly and without such sarcasm. As for your "sigh", well funny enough, that's exactly how I felt when you replied in such a haughty way to the OP.

There's semi-official 2006 biography "Various Positions", written by Ira Nadel, and now there's new semi-official biography written by Sylvie Simmons, so every new fan can get all the answers there.

My first recommendation would still be Ira Nadel's "Various Positions".
(I liked him less as a person, and felt more sorry for such a restless individual, having read S.Simmons's "I'm Your Man".)
Still enjoy his music, though, and that's what matters - probably the less you read about him the better! Just listen and enjoy...
