This article, which appeared in The Irish Times yesterday, nicely evokes the unique atmosphere of a Leonard Cohen concert.

It has all been said so many times, but it never ceases to ring true. I guess when someone writes from such a deep and honest place, we must respond with love. I never stop thanking that greater power in the universe for allowing Leonard Cohen to live in my generation. It is gratifying to know that I am not the only one who feels that way. Before finding this website, I sometimes wondered.....

I agree with you all, about Leonard's light and how it shines upon Love and humanity.
But also: we need to do it for ourselves. We need to help and support one another in our humanity, in the struggle of being human .... even, perhaps, as if there were no Leonard(s) ...

The great English poet Philip Larkin sums it up best for me, in one of his seminal late poems, "The Mower":
"We should be careful
of each other, we should be kind
while there is still time"
Simply put, compassion is my passion.
One of the most striking aspects of Leonard's work, for me, is his syncretism. If only
more people, especially those in power, could embrace this philosophy. Perhaps then,
the world wouldn't be simmering with so much discord and distrust.
Being human is a wonderful thing but I sometimes think that mankind as a collective entity
has forgotten that the world was here long before we arrived and will be here long
after we have departed, in a puff of smoke.
So yes, let's embrace without hate
and race or creed not separate
Keep dancing

Hi Lizzy, I just tried to access this article, but it seems to be available only through paid subscription. Would it be possible to post it here if you still have it.
I have only recently started to scour the pages of the LC forum and have enjoyed reading your posts on so many different topics.
Regards Susan
