'Nice informal footage from 1994 of Leonard Cohen rehearsing in Ghent, Belgium with his band and the angelic accompaniment of the tour's two backup singers from Ojai, Julie Christensen and Perla Batalla.'
(16 minutes long!)

Hartmut,
In the past, I asked the VRT (Belgian national television) if I could have this in perfect quality on DVD, but they are only allowed to copy stuff from their archives of which they have all the rights...
Can't seem to find a way to download the file but you can capture the video while it's playing on your screen with software like "Debut Video Capture Software". I've had good results with it in the past and pretty straightfoward to use.
Perhaps I'll capture it myself soon

(if I find the time).

Hi,
Now I understand why Mr Cohen and his band are starting of the Old Ideas World Tour in Ghent: they always seem to enjoy themselves there!

While the LAObserved article lists this as footage from 1994, it is, I believe, from 1993. Maarten alerted me to the existence of a version of the soundcheck titled "De polonaise van Cohen," which also includes an interesting interview after the soundcheck video is finished (the point at which the video on LAObserved ends). An example of the exchanges follows:
Interviewer: Are you someone who is engaged – are you an engaged artist?
Leonard Cohen: No, I’m totally self-involved and only interested in myself. It’s very difficult for me to get interested in anybody else.
Songs heard in the rehearsal portion of the video are “Bird On A Wire,” “Dance Me To The End Of Love,” and “The Future.”
