Tribute on BBC radio

Hi there
Just joined -- first post and a link to a site. I did search to see if this has been posted but couldn't find it, so apologies if I've broken any etiquette.
However, this is only up until this evening GMT, hence urgency.
There was a small item on Radio 4's daily arts review programme, Front Row. Arthur Smith (who did Arthur Smiths sings Leonard Cohen) came on for a brief chat and to sing 'Happy Birthday' in the style of... which sounds oddly like a mix of Arthur Smith, Cohen and Marilyn Monroe! So all rather inconsequential, but quite sweet:

You're right, it hasn't been posted, Lowrider; even if it had, we'd rather see it twice than not at all. I hope I can make the link from work ~
that's a combination I'd
love to hear

! I remember Marilyn's birthday song to JFK
very well

Hi
Thanks for that. would be happy to record it and mp3 it to you.
I saw Arthur Smith do his ...sings LC show and it was great. Dunno if you know him over there, he's very UK-centric, but he's a late middle-aged comic, lugubrious and had lots of problems with drink and fags, the kicking of which habits made for another show.
The beeb also broadcast that show, though it's an hour or more in length. Again, be happy to offer that up if there's a sensible way of getting it out there.

Arthur Smith
has been talked about [and linked? or at least recordings of his performance circulated] here, and has some fans Stateside, as well. I'll try the link and get back with you. Thanks! An MP3 would be super, too, even though, right now, I can't play one

.
Welcome to the Forum

, by the way.

Damn will do for this one! It says the file is either corrupt [not likely

], or that my player doesn't support it [likely

!] ~ so, no Arthur Smith for me

!!! If you can pass it to me, via MP3, that'd be
great, Lowrider

okay... when I get home I'll record it and mp3 it to you. It's unlikely to be huge as it was just a few minutes.
the full Arthur Smith show is another proposition. If you can suggest a good way of getting it out there, I'll give it a go.

greenfield,
Arthur Smith pops up regularly on Radio 4 here in the UK. He's also on TV currently as one of the Grumpy Old Men at 10.00 pm on Friday nights on BBC2.
Lizzy,
I have the A. Smith sings L C show on a cd if you are interested. You might have to wait a bit though, as I seem to have knackered the cd writer in my dinky laptop

too much copying seems to have worn it out! I'll be looking for an external cd burner soon.

It just doesn't seem to like it when you click on the link here, which is all rather boring. If you type it into your browser window, it should work (when you see the file you can right click and download or listen to it there).

I just listened and downloaded! thanks for the link. It seems Mark Lawson is another Cohen fan. Also just watched Arthur Smith on TV again.

glad you like it.
the full Arthur Smith Sings... is a real curio. the versions aren't supposed to be direct covers, but neither are they straight parodies -- instead he relates them to his own life.
I'm sure I could muster a cd or two if anyone wants the full Arthur.
