Bet upon my death

The time has come, I will return
like fallen leaves to dust
dissolve like those who rode before
the bleeding roads of lust

Each morning is a roll of drums
there's sorrow wall to wall
but don't you bet upon my death
the odds are very small.

I hope my response is not too rushed. As a courtesy, I had intended to wait for the 25 year anniversary since Peter posted this work, but now I must finally speak out! Frankly, I have been troubled every single day by the second verse. It lacks detail!! Surely the Poet should specify what type of roll he means. I am convinced it is a Cheese roll. Am I right?! I hope he explains.

The time has come, I will return
like fallen salad leaves to weeds
dissolve like those who rode before
the bleeding rows of mustard seeds

Each morning is a roll of cheese, Havarti !!
anyone who had a hearty
but don't you bet upon my party
the odds aren't very Smarty!!

I will share further thoughts in another 5 years (the earliest, I promise). I will return!!
