Half-listening to the radio this morning, to an item about who the listeners felt should be honoured in the NY Honours List, and my ears pricked up when a guy suggested LC! Maybe the Queen will bear this in mind for next year, if Prince Charles hasn't already whispered in her ear!

Like a knight in some olde-fashioned book... wouldn't it be wonderful and fitting.

I don't know about Canadians not being able to accept foreign honours. Canada is part of the Commonwealth and as such citizens can receive honours from the Queen. Two members of the Commonweath (not Canadians) who spring to mind are Dame Kiri te Kanawa (New Zealand) and Sir Garfield Sobers (West Indies). Even if Canada were not part of the Commonwealth their citizens would still be able to receive honorary honours . In this case we have Sir Bob Geldoff and Sir Cyrus Vance as examples.

No, the restriction is purely Canadian and has nothing to do with the Commonwealth.
