Crusser.. I've just listened to this once so far, but think you might actually have redeemed this song in some way.. I once suggested amid and among these threadoms that there had to be something about the song that is redeemable, and so it I'm thinking you might have proven me right (!).. I thank you.. and perhaps Leonard will at some point thank you too..
yours in word and song,

as well as the jazz police did you also see under your cover a queen who, with exquisite rhyming, had been dispreached by her lover?
btw is there anything you can do to redeem Dirge on the Wire?

.. by the way, your lordshi -- uh, Mr. Lion of Lions.. our Leonard has done quite a bit to that song of late.. did you see any improvement (in your mis-apprised little bird dirge world, that is) in terms of this?

I have been to two of his recent concerts, (and btw he has been to only one of mine, at the Green Note Café) and I don't remember him playing that dirge at either. I am sure he must have done as it remains inexplicably popular with the Cohen Massive.
Years ago, Ania sent me a French version and that was
certainment betterer
For me to enjoy the dirge he would have to excise most of the lyrics,
"worms on hooks" "old fashioned books" "saving ribbons" and the use of "
thee" to make easy rhymes!! this was truly Leonard's
"diamond under his knees, lover/cover" moment
Lion of Lions
(also he would need to change all the music, and his voice)

.. tinderella, you're incorriging him again..
.. when I have the time I will re-examine this Bird Dirge issue, since it's still on the course list here as a requisite I believe.. It may be on the live London CD, the slightly changed version.. oh, but then you hail from those parts -- never mind, I guess he added it or something.. but I thought it was a particularly good version of it when he performed it in New York.. with some added or changed lyrics, I think..

Violet, give me a call when he has changed all the lyrics, then we can discuss it further. until then I am off to watch Sonja Sohn (the bird on the Wire)
