In a documentary last night on the Flight of the Conchords, they both mentioned Leonard as one of their favourites. However, since Bret and Jermaine then went on to play fun word games with other singer-songwriters' names, perhaps we shouldn't take them too seriously.

"Flight of the Conchords: On Air". It was broadcast at 10.05pm on Tuesday 12 May 2009 on BBC4. I can't find it on iPlayer, probably because HBO holds the copyright. You may be able to find it someone on their site.

You may find it funnier if you start with the first series - or even their live concert.

I think the first series was very funny indeed.

Their first series was the funniest. But it is a dry kiwi sense of humour. I love it, but my english husband doesnt get it either. It is almost like what is not said, is the funniest. I was really surprised to see that the US liked it, thought it was too kiwi, but there you go. Might help the US people to finally work out where nz is.....

Thanks Fox and Lisz - I was watching it on BBC Three no idea what series but I will try and track down the first series. I would say the British sense of humour was really dry I will reserve judgment until I look at the first series

I was looking for first series on you tube ended up looking at old QI clips.

This is my sense of humour, Stephen Fry is a national treasure and Arthur Smith is on the panel in this clip he is a total Leonard Fan.

Well i watched last night, and yeah, wasnt a lot of funnies happening. I wonder if with this latest series which is done by hbo in the us, they have leant towards an american sense of humour and lost some of the uniqueness of the first series.
I would describe the english humour as the masters of wit, and word play. As a young adult i did my oe in the UK and lived there for 7 years. It took me a while to get the self depreciating humour - and now i love it. Loved how a serious conversation would suddenly turn into humour. Us kiwis tend to not laugh so much at ourselves, and we need to. Something to do with having a wee chip on our shoulders living at the bottom of the world.
We dont like people to say _ I am the best, etc, i will be the winner etc, we are more modest like the english lol.
