Hi,
I'm updating my list of all the setlists, but since English is not my native language, I've got this question:
All the legs of the tour have their own region. But what's the correct name for this:

Eastern Canada leg OR East Canadian leg?
Northern Canada leg OR North Canadian leg?
Northern America leg OR North American leg?
...

Any linguistic purists over here who can help me out and also explain me why I should write it that way?

PS: I asked 2 English teachers here in Belgium and they both answered differently... One had the "feeling" it had to be "East Canadian leg" etc..., the other one suggested "Eastern Canada leg" because it had to do with geograpical issues (I can't really explain it well in English...).

Maybe just Canada Part 2. None of the venues are really in Northern Canada. He is in every province except the Maritimes, and he is doing none of the Northern territories ( Yukon, Northwest and Nunavut.)

Definitely not Eastern Canada - that implies the Maritimes which is where all of these tours started and he isn't going back yet!

Northern would imply the territories.

the first dates are west coast, the next western canada or the prairies and the rest are sort of central Canada - we're a big place so it is hard to label.

Maybe "Western-Central Canadian tour" would do it!

I am not a lingoist but I am a Canadian and I would call it the "West-Central Canadian Tour" myself.

I'm not sure Quebec City is considered as being in Central Canada, it's pretty East to me. Sorry for Quebec being a trouble maker again...

I think vern.silver's ''Canada Part 2'' would have to do unless someone comes up with a better idea...

I was kind of asking something totally different than the thing you all have been trying to answer... It's been really fun to see you all discuss about the geographical issue about how Canada can be divided according to the four rhumbs, so I didn't want to disturb this continuation of posts. But because this discussion is still alive, it reminds me of my initial problem once again.

So here we go:

What should I write:
Eastern Canada tour OR East Canadian tour OR Eastern Canadian tour?

And I'm talking about the linguistic issue here... Not the geographical!
Perhaps you Canadians can answer this more easily if I change the name of the subject in, let's say... Africa! LC hasn't been there (yet), but this might lead to a more objective answer!

Should I write:
Eastern Africa tour OR East African tour OR Eastern African Tour

Got the idea now?

Please give me an explanation with your answer aswell!

No, no ... it should be East African. I am not an expert but that is how I would say it as an anglophone.

And by the way Darling, I love Quebec. As a westerner I never overlook a chance to say that. I have been to Montreal a number of times to study clown with Francine Cote and to visit my therapeutic clown colleagues at Dr Clown. Montreal and Quebec City are fantastic.

I agree about "East African" because we often hear "East Africa", but I think for Canada it's different because we never hear (I don't, anyways) "East Canada" but rather "Eastern Canada" like "Western Canada", no?

I am glad you love Quebec, are you from BC? I myself love BC, it's so beautiful!

BTW, if I am right, could someone explain why the difference (ie why "Eastern Canada", but "East Africa")?

Well, just to make you options just a little more confusing, when we say Western Canada it generally refers to all provinces west of Ontario, then we have the Prairies which is Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. Northern Canada refers to the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavut. Eastern Canada generally refers to Ontario and Quebec and of course we then have the Maritimes where Leonard started this wonderful tour almost one year ago.

Darling, I don't know why East Africa and Not Eastern Africa, or Eastern Canada and not East Canada except that it jsut doesn't sound right when they are used in reverse order - for me anyway. Probably because it is what i AM USED TO.

Hi - how have you been? I'm looking forward to two shows in the next week - I hope you are getting to see another show or two! Yes you are right about Quebec City - I would consider that the start of Eastern Canada - this really is a tough one - maybe something in French would better sum up the region Leonard is covering!
(I know Quebec City well - it is one of my favourite places on Earth - I was hoping he would do the Festival D'ete - it would be amazing to see him there!

Only one show (Quebec city), but second row! So I've been and will be fine!
I'm glad you get to see him again (twice!) too.
Yes, a Festival d'Été concert would have been great, but I do prefer to see him indoors though. Still praying the Lord of Song for a surprise Montreal show although my wallet may not agree with me.
