in Cork was pure and utter crap he did not face the crowd for like 1 and 1/2hrs of the gig and his set was like a jamm session each one lasted 20 minutes what a waste

Hi
I agree with you gregor, but a lot of people thought it was a great gig, i didn't. I was at both gigs(cohen's and Youngs) and was disgusted after Neil Youngs gig, he played very few songs and didn't talk with the audiance at all, but he is known for that. But the songs he played were brilliant, but he did play songs for 20 minutes which did drive me mad, i had an argument with my sister in law about it after as she thought it was a great gig...and loved his guitar overload.

The people of Ireland have spoken on our National Day ( 17th March St Patricks Day ). For his performances at The Irish Museum Of Modern Art in Kilmainham in Dublin Leonard has been awarded the Meteor Award for Best International Live Performance in 2008 beating the other nominees Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, The Killers and Kings Of Leon as well as all the other international artists who vsited our fair land in 2008.
I was fortunate enough to attend 2 of the 3 gigs and even now 9 months later it is difficult to put into words just how brilliant these concerts were. It was my first time to see Leonard live although I have been a big fan for 30 years and although I only had tickets for the saturday night, I pulled out all the stops and got a pass for the sunday show . Unforgettable and Please God we will have the opportunity to see him again later this year.

Hi
thats great news that Leonard Cohen won, I watched the awards on rte last night and they never showned the presentation . I recored it on sky plus, maybe i missed it but i did see the irish live performance and assumed the international award would be next and wasn't
DId i miss it or was i indeed correct and it was cut from the boradcast, if it was , i would be very disapointed as every other awards was boradcasted.

amcgee, our national broadcaster must not be a fan as it seems the only winner not broadcast was Leonard Cohen. I waited and watched the full show 2 hours + only to be disappointed.

Hi Willo
thanks for confirming my disappointment, i watched it for the night and was hoping that i just missed it, i suppose the reality of the awards was pop awards and i think the age profile of the audiance would mean that they wouldn't be jumping for joy when they hear that Leonard Cohen won one of the main awards
When you consider most were there to watch Boyzone... need i say more
Most of the other bands were very good, so bar the disapointment of not seeing Cohen award
Not to be stirring any rumours, i hope the reason they left it out was more to do with editing and not anything like Cohen turning it down or for other reasons, the disapointment last night was the same when Cohen refused to Glastonbury permission to let his show be played live on BBC, i stayed up to watch that and again was disappointed that Cohen was the reason for the omission and not the BBC

amcgee, I am sure that as there was no performance involved it was edited out on a time issue. Maybe there was no one to accept the award and so the RTE just ommitted it from the broadcast. However it would have been nice to have it acknowledged.
I think most of the generation who attended the show are now aware who Leonard Cohen is since the success of Hallelujah on the X Factor and the more publicity he gets the better for the World and all of the non converted

The reason Leonard's performance was not broadcast could be more to do with his legal position vis a vis Sony. His performance at Glastonbury was not broadcast by the BBC either, though many of us expected it to be. The reason given was that it was 'not available for broadcast' and this apparently meant that there were issues over who exactly owns the rights to some of Leonard's material. I suppose the lawyers will sort it all out one day, but in the meantime it's a shame that we the fans miss out and that Leonard misses out on airtime.

Well deserved.............................. to a beautiful gracious human being that Ireland had the privilege of having for a brief shining moment, on our land.
Let's hope he wants to return once more.
Sorry if this is worded a bit weird.... I had a few glasses
