Wow
Leonard must have heard that I wasn't going to be there--what luck to have chosen Portugal instead.
I sure hope that venue sticks. Seems weird after they had advertised that he was booked. A lot of disappointed fans if he doesn't appear.

Oh blimey. I have a ticket for this, and plane tickets  . Mind you, I would probably have gone to Spain sometime soon anyway. But I wouldn't go to the festival if LC's not gonna be there. Fingers crossed.

I have now 100 % confirmation from the tour management that Leonard's concert at the Benicassim Festival is definitely cancelled.

And what's the reason for the cancelling?
I find it very disrespective of the tour organizer to just cancel concerts WITHOUT ANY GOOD REASON.
It was also AEG who put Leonard's appearence at the Paleo Festival in Nyon on their website, before they had confirmed it to the festival. (similar to the concert in Bucharest...). My question is: Why did they do that????????

I agree with SwissChris

I also would like to voice some opinions about this cancellation. I find the absence of any explanation not only disrespective but also inconsiderate, unprofessional, and generally not congruent with Leonard Cohen's comportment, his manner of behaving in the world. Some explanation should be given as soon as possible.

I would understand if the explanation has something to do with the way things are done in Spain, as I live in Spain and am quite used to such obstacles. If this is the case please pass that information on to us.

If it has something to do with a failing of tour management this may be a little harder to present to us, but at least give it a try!

170 euros is a significant loss for a poor monk on mountain in Spain! But the money is not my complaint, it is the inconsideration.

I'm sure we will get some account for the cancellation - but the communication between the parties involved (located in three or four countries) takes some time because of the time difference between California and Europe.

Hi Jarkko,

Why still appear Benicassim in tour dates on you website?

The website you are referring to is not mine but the Sony website dedicated to Leonard. Looks like they have difficulties in keeping it updated. My website is http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com and the concert list is at http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/tour2008-1.html

Yes Jarkko, the tour itself seems a little disjointed, if the original unconfirmed dates where to have gone ahead, it would have seen leonard jumping here, there and everywhere in a sporadic manner. Such a busy programme would be tough for anyone nevermind someone of Leonards advanced years.

Looks unlikely then that Leonard will play the Cap Roig festival in Girona, shame as the surroundings are idyllic for a LC experience.
I´m sure he will come to Spain in part 2 of the tour as his fan base here is enormous.

Can I also ask Jarkko why you posted a comment saying that LC fans in Spian where going to be spoiled by LC in August and later you removed the post. Is there any likelihood of the LC coming to Spain and indeed is there going to be a second part of the tour.

The schedule has been growing and changing so fast that it is difficult to keep up with it. Also our tour threads have become quite widespread, and that makes it a bit difficult to follow the developments for members who are not reading all messages. The prospective August schedule had several concerts in Spain. Now the tour is being re-scheduled, and we don't know yet where and when it is going to resume. It's best to be quite prudent and not to raise hopes before we have more details. That may take quite a while, but we will be the first to know!

The normal case with a festival is, if a group or performer (even the headliner) cancels, there is NO refund.(Because it is not the festival's fault if a group or a performer decides to cancel its appearance) That's the normal case. There might be festivals which offer a refund, but that would be quite an exception. Let's hope the best for all those who had already purchased tickets for Benicassim! I really think AEG SHOULD APOLOGY!!!!

Hi Jarkko,

Today Benicassim´s organizers has inform us through their official forum that the cancelation of LC is not 100% confirmed and they are renegotiating with him. What do you know about this? Maybe LC will assit to Benicassim?

The AEG site still has Leonard listed as playing at Benicassim on July 20th, as of Friday April 11th. Does this mean that their little poker hand has been played out?
