Songs Leonard Should NOT Cover

As for Bee's posts: I'm not going to fight you (since that is clearly what you want). Say what you will of my newfound enemy Young dr. Freud, at least he has some panache. You however, Bee, have none, and I seriously doubt you have even an above average intelligence. And really, trying to insult me by bad mouthing Charles XII, whom I seriously consider to be one of the worst Swedish kings ever, is just pathetic. And btw, Charles XII was not gay, but more likely androgynous. At least he was asexual.

Hey,
Who left the young Leo Sayer photo on page four?
"I won't let the show go on..." Now there's a song LC could decline to exhume.
Cheers
& sorry for lowering myself to taking pots shots.

Cohen Does the Kids' Circuit
Cohen would surprise me if he did the Sesame Street theme song. Actually, it would be cool if he did a guest shot on the show. He could hang out with Oscar the Grouch, a Beautiful Loser if I've ever seen one.
Sesame Street Theme Lyrics by Joe Raposo, Jon Stone & Bruce Hart
Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street
Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet
Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street
It's a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To Happy people like you--
Happy people like
What a beautiful
Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame street...

Rob I love your suggestion that Delilah would be a no-no, followed by your second thoughts that perhaps it would be an idea after all. For those outside Wales: Tom Jones’ ‘Delilah’ spontaneously and joyously erupts amongst groups of drinkers as the night wears on in pubs across the land. I think Leonard should seriously consider adding it to his set when (if) he comes to Wales.
Other songs he should not include might be:
Why Worry - Mark Knopfler
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life - Monty Python
Like a Virgin - Madonna
Feelings - not sure who this is by, but you know the song - Feeeelings, wo wo wo feeeeeeelings…..

Diane I love the visual of people in a bar singing Delilah
. We had a filmmaker, David Sarich, at our film festival two years ago. He made a film called Feel Neil. We had a blast singing Neil Diamond songs at the bar. I can't tell you how many people thought Dliilah was a Neil Diamond song. Very fun song to sing after a few.
I have been thinking that I don't like the idea of him singing My Way.

yes Paul Anka a fine Canadian, jsut recieved the order of Canada and Frank Synatra wrote this. It is a great song, but can become a cliche. many performed this song on The Gong Show
My Way Co-written by Paul Anka & Frank Sinatra As performed by Frank Sinatra Hit # 27 on the Top 40 charts in 1969
And now, the end is near, and so I face, the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear,
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived, a life that's full, I've traveled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Regrets, I've had a few, but then again, too few to mention.
I did, what I had to do, and saw it through, without exemption.
I planned, each charted course, each careful step, along the byway,
and more, much more than this,
I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew,
When I bit off, more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up, and spit it out.
I faced it all, and I stood tall,
and did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried,
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing.
To think, I did all that, and may I say --- not in a shy way,
"Oh no, oh no not me,
I did it my way".
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things, he truly feels,
And not the words, of one who kneels.
The record shows, I took the blows ---
And did it my way!
I did it my way.

Hi,
According to David Jones (Bowie) My Way is based on the melody of a French popular song that he was paid to write an English set of lyrics to in the 60's.
He wrote a set & sent them to the publishers but besides his fee he heard no more of it until the melody turned up on the radio as My Way, I assume with lyrics written Mr Anka.
Frank probably used some "Family" muscle to get a co-composer credit.
Does that story ring any bells or veracity?
Cheers

I just did a couple of searches, (Jeeves & Google) & by cross reference the majority give credits to P. Anka, J. Revaux, G. Thibault, C. Frankois

That is an interesting scenario. In the world of royalties and releases it is hard to believe a person could get away with this. Presently you can e-mail the lyrics/scripts to yourself for proof of authorship. Then send them in a registered letter just in case.
I would think if David Bowie wrote the song it would be common knowledge. Frank Sinatra? Well, it is easy to share a credit with someone who has input into their song. nadonna gets writing credits on her songs, maybe they add a word here and there. I like to give writing credits when a person has significant input on my little scripts.

The tune was originally written by Jacques Revaux, and had english words. When it was offered to Claude Francois he didn't like the original words, and suggested a different scenario. This version was then written by Gilles Thibaut and recorded by Claude Francois (in French) in 1968. Paul Anka heard it and took a copy home with him. The rest, as they say, is history

My Way or the Highway
Thanks for the now definitive position on the authorship of My Way. I must say that I've always loathed the song.
From My Way to the Highway LC shouldn't cover Highway to Hell by ACDC.
