"we would like to apologise for the occasional squeeky noises coming from the deceased Baby Troll smokey and the Useless troll, Avalon."

Does that mean that you are not actually apologising for the noise. Denying yourselves the pleasure (as in 'would like' ) may be construed as a form of mental masochism. However, in this particular case, the masochistic pleasure can only enhance the initial pleasure of hammering in those nails. Perhaps this masochistic pleasure could be deemed to be an example of deferred gratification?

HTH  :?

Hey Byron,

I am not of the legal profession. Information really is my business. Thus I can confirm that there is at least some noise with every channel.

So nobody has to be blamed. It is quite normal that Avalon and others disturb the usual flow of the Poetry Section. If Avalon et al. didn't something else would.

We had structurally similar disturbances before, and the future will surely put the task on us to meet them again.

The present disturbances will only be relevant if they feed on the channel's capacity. And if they had done so, jarkko would have reacted.

I see them as "boys of summer in their ruin" (Dylan Thomas).

"Let the children play..." - and us old men amusedly watch'em...

you're right. the use "would like" is modern weedy. unless I really do mean that courtesy suggests I should apologise but reality prefers to have the trolls to laugh at. I would like to know which I meant.

Hi Smockey, I don't believe we've met. I just wanted to say hi and I'm sorry that your Grandma is dead. However, I don't understand the reference to her 60's clothing. As I recall, 60's dresses were really quite short. This being the case, in all likelihood your late Grandmother's bottom was exposed to the elements - so it is understandable that people might have thought it funny. I however, find it quite tasteless. I would go so far as to venture a guess that her penchant for short skirts caused her demise. I don't think that's funny. Not one bit.

Have a Happy Holiday Season - perhaps we can share a cup of egg nog or something over the holidays.

Cheers,
Linda.

Hi Linda, I hope you don't mind me butting in on your conversation. I have never been a fashion critic, apart from local and regional shows, but smocks were at their height, (and their shortest) , in the swinging 60's.

I remember an occasion when Mary Quant consulted me about a particular design, and, can you believe we chatted over a glass (or 3!) of egg nog! So your post has left me with a feeling of deep nostalgia.

As for the dear deceased, smokey, I do have a friend who is a keen amateur pathologist and he may be able to posit a likely cause of death just from reading the threads on this forum. I will ask him tomorrow as we stroll hand-in-hand along Hampstead Heath.

Just think about it, Linda. There was once a time when Gay bashers and homophobes frequented the Earth. At least you would never see them on a Leonard Cohen forum, although my computer guy has, in any event, added a filter automatically to remove such sickening prejudice from any post,

kind regards

Very true Smokey, he is one messed up dude.
I've seen Big Man On Campus personalities before but his is ridiculous. His egomania has scuttled this forum. I wish we could go back to being a pleasant forum.

Hi there,

I hope you and Mary Quant had some good larfs over your egg nogs. She certainly was an influence in the fashion industry during that time. The smocks you refer to, were, Baby Dolls, I think. Worn by babies, dolls and Grandmothers alike, it seems.

Perhaps, when you have your hand to hand chat with your pathologist fiend, he might be able to recommend a reputable taxidermist as this Smokey person needs to get stuffed. I find it extremely irritating that he posts and posts and posts, yet says nothing. This trend seems to be catching on.

I'm very glad to learn that your computer guy found a program that actually deletes postings by Gay bashers and homophobics. Does that include racists, sexists, leftists, rightists, fascists and faucists as well? I think all those that are computer savvy should be eggnogledged for their efforts.

Have a happy holiday season and I hope to see you in the knew yer.

Best regards,
Miss Lakeside

Hi Linda

I thought "baby dolls" were night attire? I'll give Mary a ring and see how she Quantfies the position.

I saw my pathologist friend this morning and he says Grandma smokey almost certainly died because of "lack of substance".

btw as we left the Heath I did try to hail a passing taxidermist but it ignored me, only slowing a little to spray us with a fine mist of rainwater and blood.

My computer guy has not quite perfected the software to remove all posts which include pathetic prejudice such as the homophobia shown by the useless troll Avalon. The difficulty is that when others respond to it, perhaps to laugh at Avalon or to wonder about the depths of his fear of gays, their posts are deleted as well.

So, my CG tried a different approach which automatically deleted only the offensive parts of posts. This experiment was not really successful as can be shown below

Avalon said " the ............on.................is...................the". Whilst there is a school of thought that thinks that is an improvement on her usual standards, (after all, she is very thick), I think I must revert to a ongoing total plonk scenario. Luckily I believe she stopped posting immediately after she suffered a severe on-line panic attack on this forum last week.

I have spent a little while pondering your question whether infinity is redundant. I sent an email to one of my Hollywood director contacts and he said that the video and dvd rights to Toy Story remain a valuable commodity and that you must consider "infinity and beyond".

warmest regards

Hello, again,

Infinity and beyond. That is much to punder. Quantum physics not being a specialty of mine, I find that the mere idea of beyond infinity gives me a heartache. I will leave the spectre of the great beyawned to be pondered by those with higher IQ's than mine. I'm sure there is a great, long queue of qualified indieviduals.

I am most interested in the talents of your CG. I'm presuming that CG is your 'computer guy' and not your 'cover girl' - CG being Cover Girl's TM, of course. Speaking of which, I've not as yet heard Avalon speak in a homophobic fashion, so I can't comment on the effectiveness of such a system. However, I can certainly attest to the fact that there is, sadly, much abuse on the Cohen site which is really not in keeping with the All Good Things motto, is it?

As you may or may not be aware, I live not far from Vancouver which is just a stone's throw from Mt. St. Helven which erupted about 20 years ago dispersing much ash but no lava. The mountain is active once more and this time, the seismologists (another group for that plonking software perhaps) believe that an all out eruption, lava and all, may occur. Living near a volcano can be quite interesting. It's something to keep your eyes on.

Lack of substance, is it? I don't know which is worse. Lack of, or abuse of. Again, I prefer to leave that to the pundits.

One final thing I'd like to bring up is this business of my random classifcation. How are things going there, I wonder. Please let me know if you have further news.

Ciao for now,
Linda.
