...a duet almost as happy and energetic as the Doris Day/John Denver one:
Kylie Minogue & Adam Garcia, Better The Devil You Know
... a song about which Nick Cave has said:
when Kylie Minogue sings these words there is an innocence to her voice that makes the horror of this chilling lyric all the more compelling. The idea presented within this song, dark and sinister and sad – that all love relationships are by nature abusive and that his abuse, be it physical or psychological, is welcomed and encouraged, shows how even the most innocuous of love songs has the potential to hide terrible human truths ... Kylie becomes love's sacrificial lamb bleating an earnest invitation to the drooling, ravenous wolf that he may devour her time and time again, all to a groovy techno beat. "I´ll take you back. I´ll take you back again" ...
Kylie and Nick together:
Where The Wild Roses Grow
Death Is Not The End

Who would have thought? Kylie sings Dylan! Since Bob has never recorded "I Should Be So Lucky" here is something more profound from him:

Mr. Acker Bilk's Stranger On The Shore was originally a hit in the U.K. and the USA in 1962. Just a point of information.

... the dates pertain to the live recordings featured in the videos ... which is the convention that I have used referencing previous song videos ... your point is well taken and I should note original recording date when there is a large disparity between it and a live version ...

Here's a song that I believe was released in 1962. It was considered to be the first hit of the British Invasion to America.

This thread is great. It's bringing back all sorts of memories. I got my first "record player" for Christmas in 1962 and the first two 45s I ever got were Telstar and this one!

A song commemorating the Kent State University shootings almost forty years ago.

Thanks, everyone. "Telstar" and "Stranger on the Shore" were two of the first singles I ever owned. My mother liked them, and bought them for me.
The first pop magazine I ever bought was "The Record Song Book" and had this guy on the cover:

Another favourite instrumental at this time was:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJCMFhXziro ("Orange Blossom Special" by The Spotnicks)
and this one was something of a mystery:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yWwlOLNwGg ("There Are Eight Million Cossack Melodies, and This is One of Them" by Group X)
and the first instrumental that I bought myself:

Tony - Thanks for the Kent State song I hadn't heard that before.

Just to jump forward a little bit to 1989! I heard another song by this group on the radio the other day, and it reminded me of this one.
I thought it a great song when it came out.

I've been enjoying these old songs that have been posted.I remember my brother's The Shadows lp with Apache on it and I thought they were wonderful. There is nine years between my brother and twelve years between my sister and I,so I've grown up with quite a varied taste in music, and hearing these old songs again brings back some wonderful memories for me.Thank you.

Thanks, Kwills...I'd forgotten that song, but remember quite liking it. Here are three of my favourites from around that time:

Midnight in Moscow! I would have gone to my grave and have never thought of this song again!
It was great to hear it. Thanks John.
