I keep dipping in and out of this threeeeeeeeeead but haven't really said much.

Phil....I'm enjoying your contributions very much and look forward to each new take on a song. I bet there isn't a song you couldn't weave lyrically! Only the other day I was listening to Un Canadien Errant

And you're all looking forward to Krakow. I'm afraid I won't be there. I've yet to venture from these shores (although I did do a day trip to Ireland from Holyhead two years ago ) Sorry to let the side down but I will be busy at work ...for the very last time I retire in August!!!

I'm already planning what to do after August and in a way I've already started. I've started writing reviews/interviews/articles for a music magazine and have submitted my first interview and am awaiting to see it in black and white...the magazine should arrive through my letter box very soon. It's a subscription magazine so it's not on the shop shelves!
They've asked me to do an interview with an Irish folk duo called Tir na Nog ( http://www.myspace.com/tirnanogduo ) who I will be meeting in June at a festival. It's about 35 years ago when I last saw them in concert. I was the folk club secretary at college and I selfishly booked them but was too shy to chat to them. They're back in the UK for the first time in about 15 years. Dave (Davido) is a fellow fan and Bernadine knows them in Ireland.
I'll also be reviewing a group called Quintessence (now called Maha Dev's Quintessence http://www.myspace.com/cosmicsurfer2009 ). They were big in the early 70's and then disappeared off the scene until recently. They performed at the very first Glastonbury 40 years ago and have been invited back this year. It's not the original line up ..not many bands have original line ups! My brother is in the band
And there's a band in Sheffield called Dead Like Harry ( http://www.deadlikeharry.co.uk/ ). They're the band I've written the article about and I'm also going to write their biography.

And I want to sequel 'The Diamond's Mine'. I'll probably do that by writing it in the forum in rough and use it as my 'writing pad'.
I've also got some ideas on the maths front which I want to explore. So it looks like I'm going to keep myself very busy after August...it'll keep me out the way of Jeremy Kyle etc:)

On another matter...my back isn't good. That was the reason I didn't walk up Snowdon last year. Yes, I lied about the train. I was on it!!!! Soon after Barmouth I started the process of hospital consultant and physio etc and things gradually got better but a month ago I found myself back at square 1....actaully it feels like square -1 ... I now have to start all over again with the doc etc It's very frustrating but I'll try to be careful and also patient.

That's my update. I just wanted to add my tuppenny worth to this wonderful thread and to let you know that a fellow barmouthian hadn't dropped off the edge of the world.

All the very best with your new and exciting projects Pete! You once gave me a sample of Tir na Nog and I must dig it out. (I am reminded of the marvellous Van Morrison song of that name.) I shall check your links later. I hope you will also be progressing your own musical career. Also hope very much that you get some relief from your back problems. Really nice to read your update. Pete, thanks for your news. Good to hear from you. Really really sorry you will not be in Kracow with us. But you will be there in spirit for all of us and we will drink a pint or 2 to all our mountainsiders that do not make the trip.

Can I point out to you that the wonderful game of soccer is not about men running around in shorts? It is much more than that. It is life itself. The struggle of man against man. The symmetries and patterns of formations that mirror the basic needs for survival and ultimate glory. The helixical representation of all that matters is akin to the molecular DNA structure that we all possess and which is ingrained in all humans to aid the celebration of all that is good with the game of soccer. It is this goodness that promotes eleven against eleven for the glory of gold and the glory of knowing that the human race appreciates all the fineries of those 90 minutes on the green turf where many complexities are offered to the world. The ingenuities behind pitting bravery, technique, tactics and formation against fellow countries is a marvel to behold. The offside law, the most talked about and misunderstood law of any ilk, is a complexity that can only be understood after many years of deep study and zen-like meditation

I would have so looked forward to singing your version of Un Canadien Errant. I would have also sung it with Polish subtitles and English sub-subtitles. But it's not to be.
