In Germany we have a saying "Wir werden nicht älter, sondern besser!" - We don't get older, but better! I had to think of that on the occasion of Leonard Cohen's 80th birthday. While he has created fantastic songs throughout his life and presented them to enthusiastic audiences, certainly the latest series of concerts and also 'Old Ideas' exceeded anybody's expectations.

My sincere congratulations on this milestone birthday from Cologne and New York City, all the very best for many more happy years so that maybe we can enjoy more songs, poems, and, above all, concerts - Christa

thank you for spending your twentyninethousandtwohundredandtwentyfirst day in this place, and please, make your visit last a lot longer! I've just discovered you & your music one and a half years ago, and, forgive me for being egoistic, I really need more years or decades to enjoy it all - and get a chance to say "thank you" in real life.

Maybe it gets boring to have people you've never met thank you for helping them change their lives, or maybe it's rather creepy, I don't know. But anyways, thank you. Your words are like dots of light in the complete dark, and some of them are like a full-blown sunrise. I don't know whether they're dark, to me they're plainly so very full of life. They, or you (and my incomparable therapist), have helped me so much to regain my curiosity, to find interest in this world, in life, in all its facets. I've even been able to move into my own appartment - something nobody dared to consider possible 2 years ago (because, well, you might have guessed, I'm about three quarters crazy). Your music and words did a lot to get me there. Though we'll probably never meet, you feel like some unknown companion. It feels so important to just know that you're there.
Thank you. I owe you a lot.
