I were on holiday, staying on the Isle of Spestes 1995choosen for the simple reason, it were next door to Hydra, my poor famliy had to get on the flying dolphin every other day, Just so I could go to Hydra. Think I found L.C house, well I posed outside of which I thought were his. We went to the Pirate Bar ( Bill's Bar ) but it were shut, than again it was October, but I loved every second, could not say the same for me brood. There were no meeting of fan's at that time, ( that I knew of ) it was a prilgrim of your own then. May I say to all of you who are lucky enough to get in 2011 ENJOY. I have will light a thin green candle.

That's good news Greg.
And yes, that will be our weekend. Many participants will stay for some extra days, most of them before the weekend.
I plan to open the list of participants this weekend!!
Looking forward to seeing you in Greece!

Wonderful thank you so much Jarkko - Ann and I will both be there - she flies into Perth tonight - well, 2.30am in the morning (Friday 31st Dec), so she'll be overjoyed at the news - we'll book ourselves in this weekend - ostensibly flying into Athens around Monday 6th, then across to Hydra on the Thursday.

Hi, Denise,
I too have been bitten by the Hydra bug. Seems you caught the magic, even in the quiet of autumn.
The Pirate Bar is a lively place for very late night dancing in the busy season. I don't know if Cohen has a history there. I believe Bill's Bar was actually located in what is now the Bratsera Hotel and Restaurant...
I hope you get a chance to join the crowd on Hydra in June some time...
Thanks for the cue to remember Hydra...always a pleasant reverie for me....
in joy,
Anne

OK, folks, it's time to make decisions. I have opened the list of participants, it's here:
http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/backtohydra.html
Some essential information is on the same page. I am sure we will get more useful travel hints from members who have been to the island recently.
Please let me know by email (at
ja@nebula.fi) if you plan to join us. I will add your name(s) to the list (also let me know if you don't want to show your complete name).
To make things easier for myself, I only list people who sign up for the meetup by email. Please also mention your homeland!
The list is for information only. If you have to change your plans later, just let us know, and we will remove you from the list.
Note that I have opened a new thread for this meetup, please continue the discussion at
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=24762

Re: Bill's Bar - actually the original bar was located in what is now the Amalour cocktail lounge then it move around the corner and up the street to what is now the Bratsera Hotel. Bill was only able to open the bar because his (then) wife, Lena was a Greek citizen. Foreigners were not allowed to own Greek business licenses unless they had a Greek partner. The hotel was not actually built until later in Bill's Bar's run - only the bar room building existed the rest was a weed strewn ruin of an old sponge factory. Boy does that bring back memories!

if any of you Hydra 2011 attendees want to befriend me on Facebook to maybe get to know each other a little better prior to the event please feel free to do so. Simply search for lcohenfan on Facebook and I should be at the top of the list. Not being creepy but merely trying to maybe get to know a few before I get there and know noone.
Be well!

Good morning from Wales,
My friend and I are going to the Hydra meetup but notice that the hotel prices are high. We are looking for people who may be interested in sharing a luxurious self catering villa. The cost would work out around 400 euros for the week per bedroom. there are 4 bedrooms, two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms, so if you are sharing it works out really well, ar 200 euros each! or a bit more cost for 9 nights. The dates I am interested in are from Wenesday for 9 nights. We would have to pay a deposit of 40% in advance and then the remaining 60% 6 weeks prior to the arrival date, which is fairly customary. There is also a 1,000 euros in case of damage, but I guess Cohen fans are responsible people! so that should be no problem, I hope.
Will anyone interested contact me on
eleri.carrog@btinternet.com. for further details. I have already provisionally booked the villa.
Cheers,
Eleri
