Leonard's Antipodean tour starts on January 20th, but an Obama related concert in Washington is not out of the question apparently.

On this webpage http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,475804,00.html it says this:

"Also on the schedule: A still unannounced concert is in the works for Sunday the 18th with Alicia Keys and other guests."

Hmmm...

Just caught up with this thread......surely Leonard wouldn't associate himself with the already proven morally corrupt Obama. This is a man who after 11 days of silence inspired by political self-serving expediency can only express ‘concern’ over the slaughter of innocent women and children in Gaza.

If Leonard goes anywhere near Obama’s circus of fools on the 20th. then he is most definitely not the man I’ve always thought him to be.

Ken... Don't get your knickers in a knot. If Leonard opens in NZ on the 20th, sheer logistics has him and his entourage leaving the US several days prior. It's almost physically impossible to play a late night gig on the 18th in Washington and still be in NZ by the 20th to rest, rehearse and set up. Kory and the other organizers would not allow Leonard to be so stretched out prior to a new concert tour.

I am almost positive the announcement will have to do with a special concert in NY, an award, a marriage, a baby, purchase of the Chelsea, or something equally mind-blowing (per numerous suppositions earlier today!). Not the inauguration.

10AM in New York on Monday 12 January is 1 AM on Tuesday here in Brisbane, 2 AM in Sydney and Melbourne, and 4 AM in New Zealand.

So although in this part of the world we're all probably sleeping badly because we're so excited the Pacific tour is starting in a few weeks, do we need to make sure we're up AT THAT TIME on that day in order to see the special announcement?

I suspect we do, so that we can frantically click and type in order to get in early for something. Or will it be safe enough to leave it to a more civilised hour?

Meanwhile I remain mystified as to what it might be, but I notice Jarkko did stop saying that people's guesses were wrong, so maybe someobdy has got it right already. Or maybe Jarkko is just having a few winks' sleep.

No, no, no, you're all wrong. The special announcement is that Jarkko is having a big birthday party for himself at his house and we're all invited, but no one will be admitted without an expensive present (and some nuts for his pet squirrel). Jarkko will be posting his wish list on Monday.

(i) LC is going to perform 'Democracy' at Obama's inauguration
(ii) giving a big party at the the Chelsea Hotel for all the bankrupt fans after the concert.

A video interview live with LC from New York. In this live stream video Leonard will announce something, perhaps something like the continuation of the European tour after North America.

I think he is going to be on something like Letterman in the spring, to promote the US tour and/or a new album.

Letterman?
wedding?
new grand-child?
ascension to heaven?

hope it is none of these.

all would be nice for LC himself but i don't feel his personal life affects me (let's not get into the debate that his personal life is the same as his written word/music life etc etc) and i feel it is none of my business.

yes, i wish him happiness and health etc, but i think he ought to be able to keep such private issues private, to be honest.

i hope the announcement is that he is encouraged by the tour and happy to be more active and is announcing some more gigs, records, etc

I'm with Mollydog on this one.

I've only just logged on to find this thread (after Marg told me about it) and after reading several pages I came to the same conclusion that Mollydog has proffered.

I would expect that the venue and the timing are to coincide with the appropriate way to announce that Leonard is to be offered (and accept) an ambassadorial position on behalf of, and working for, the United Nations.

Leonard has the gravitas and respect that will carry enormous weight with whatever task the United Nations asks of him.

If I'm wrong, then so be it. But anything 'lesser' than such a reward and a request, would be beneath the 'Dignity' of the man. (In my humble opinion ;-) )

O Merton, that was brilliant.

I'm going to make a guess that nobody else has, but one that would explain Jarkko's happy excitement and for stating the precise time.

I think all it is going to say on the front page is.......

"Leonard has just entered the chat-room."

Unfortunately for us all the U.N. has in recent years evolved into nothing more than a flaccid and ineffective talking shop that nations such as our own, the US and Israel take no heed of when it clashes their own interests. Strange when you think that Israel itself was created by a UN resolution.

The UN is now just a cynical tool of convenience used by governments when it needs to sway public opinion. It's main aim now it would seem is to give a motley bunch of actresses and pop stars something to do in their down-time.

As for the gravitas of these special ambassadors..........a quick Google brings up......

Nicole Kidman
Angelina Jolie
Roger Moore
David Beckham (the footballer)
Ricky Martin
Nick Carter of the boy band the Backstreet Boys (I kid you not)
and of course the blessed Bono

Hopefully Leonard has better things to do with his time

I think this is the most probable guess Hydriot.

I think that he hasn't got an important announcement and just felt that he ought to have one....so he's looking at what is appearing on this thread and then he'll choose whichever suits his mood :)
