... as seems befitting of this website in general, and relation to that noble lord who for the most part spends his time coming up with elaborate scenarios that, superficially at least, would seem to indicate his indifference towards me, and yet, truly, I know in my heart the secret satisfaction of being so elaborately ignored... well, anyway, here is another epitaph for this personage, with at least an honorable mention to that other guy whose Bird dirge Lord M. is still very much in the throws of, but, well, this one quite obviously makes the better choice here...

DEATH OF LADY VIOLET'S MAN

-- (phone rings): excuse me? Oh, I see... no, I didn't realize... of course I understand... well, the fraudulence, yes. No, I'll change it. Sure, Phil, we can meet later. At our usual place. Sure. Just remember to leave those nice little lines of white in the woman's room... I love it when you do that. Oh, and don't forget to bring your gun -- the new Glock -- I just love touching that under the table -- Oh, that's sweet... bye Phillie, sweets. Bye.

Now where was I? Oh, need to correct the above epitaph... this one's not as interesting I don't think, but, well, now that the Lord has passed I have other allegiances of course:

DEATH OF A (certain) LADY'S MAN
LORD MICHAEL LIES HERE DEAD. SHOULD NEVER HAVE STARTED THAT
OTHER THREAD.

... these smallest of crumbs are just not enough, my lord, how ever shall I live on them?... violet, moving toward her dying couplet... (I'm not exactly sure that that means, but it sounded poetic...)

I was sauntering through this graveyard when I tripped over your poem on Leonard (birthday poem).
Beautiful poem V.
The scenery
the flow.
The love.

A beautiful Threnody.

A touch of melancholic froth on his birthday champers :!: 8)
I suggest you have brought to the fore an emotion we have all felt.
But I won't dwell, while the sun is still shining and that flower blossoms still.

Dear Mat,

I just got home tonight and found this lovely post from you, and so beautifully written too. I know what you mean about not wanting to dwell on these things, and yet there's the desire to have these things said now, in a way, as you've suggested as well... In a somewhat similar vein I wrote a piece (not a poem) called "My Darling One" under the Dear Heather, Ten New Songs section... perhaps you wouldn't mind taking a look. It also deals with where Leonard is now in his life, and how I see his song "There for You" in terms of that, and in terms of his speaking to us, which to me is the "you" of the song. It was hard for me to write this piece for some reason, and I'm still not sure I got it exactly where I think it needs to be, but I didn't see this interpretation of the song being offered and so I thought it might be meaningful to do so.

Thanks again for your kind words, they have warmed my heart,

Violet

On the matter of his lordship, and my removing of today's epitaph...

I can't sleep, which is really and truly another kind of tragedy (oh, wrong thread for that reference, although in another sense it's perfect for here)... Anyway, I've decided to remove the "My Kingdom for a Horse" (or thereabouts) epitaph, and give his poor lordship a break. He's been being a good sport about so much of my silliness lately, and so I don't want to wear out a good thing... should he request to see it of course -- oh God, I really have to stop with this... (my lord, if you'd care to see it, just let me know)...

Well, tomorrow's another tortuous day for me, but I will make some kind of effort not to visit these faux-forum premises (my escapist and procrastinationist pass time it seems while stuck at my desk even on weekends) since it looks as though I can only get into trouble here, as I've managed to prove over and over again...

Okay, so --

good night (hopefully), to his lordship and his devout following, etc.,

Violet

p.s. actually for the last (for a while at least) of my "torturing of the lord" material, see Georges' recent "Cow" thread... I'm particularly proud of "The Smilies Defense" (p. 2), as I believe it could be precedent setting... v.

Ah, that would be the "Rip van Winkle" - story... :-)
My epitaph - not in any way original, not new, but still very appropriate so far - would be: "Here lies one whose name was writ in water".
"You thought that it could never happen / to all the people that you became"...

I just watched Woody Allen’s late 70’s classic, Annie Hall, last night and found myself getting some epitaph ideas… starting with Annie’s (Diane Keaton’s) morbid brother character, Duane, played by a young Christopher Walken, whose driving death wish fantasy (which he conveys to Alvie, the Woody Allen character) makes his driving of Alvie and Annie to the airport later that night oh so very special... So, to Duane…

“Sometimes when I’m driving…”
R.I.P. DUANE HALL XXXX- XXXX

… you could conceivably add Annie Hall and Alvie Singer to that epitaph…

… same film, and so, in a sense, same graveyard… Alvie, the consummate neurotic New York Jewish intellectual (who’s only interested in books with ‘death’ in the title) may well die of vapid California culture if he doesn’t get out of there pronto… So, to quote Alvie himself for his own tombstone…

I DON’T RESPOND WELL
TO MELLOW

R.I.P. ALVIE SINGER XXXX- XXXX

… Alvie on this same California theme… and in (wholesome) reference to Manson (Alvie having just mentioned ritual religious cult murders)… I guess this is more “in memorium” than “epitaph”…

WHEAT GERM MURDERS
R.I.P....................................................................

… same film, at a seriously vacuous Hollywood party, Jeff Goldblum, playing one of the beautiful people, says this on the phone to his guru… but what a nice epitaph, I thought, given this uniquely (possibly terminal) “California” hazard…

I FORGOT MY MANTRA
R.I.P. BLAH BLAH BLAH

… this is a quote from Alvie, still in California, and arrested after a fender bender in a parking lot, after which he anxiously tears up his driving license in response to a police officer asking for it… but what a timeless epitaph, I thought (which seems to lead to one’s filling in the blanks as it were)… and so in the spirit of Alvie Singer…

I HAVE A TERRIFIC PROBLEM
WITH AUTHORITY

R.I.P. BLAH BLAH BLAH

… oh, Alvie again, still in California where he says they have awards for everything… but what a truly solid and enduring epitaph, I’m thinking…

ADOLF HITLER, THE BEST
FASCIST DICTATOR

R.I.P. BLAH BLAH BLAH

... lastly, this is Annie (not quite jiving with Alvie it seems), and it rounds off the set I think…

I GOTTA GO

Hey Grecian man, a most exceptional epitaph I must say... a mass grave seems somewhere involved as well...

Tinderella53, the number 53 has special significance to me, but I won't disclose more than that since we've only just met (if I could bring myself to use smilies I'd put one right here I think)... Anyway, your epitaph made me want to do the logical next one...

REMEMBER ME, I SHOT THE GUY
WHO STOLE MY FUCKING GROCERIES

R.I.P. BLAH BLAH BLAH

[edit: as things turned out (and I'm still not asleep), it seemed necessary to change "nearly shot the guy" to just plain "shot the guy"... thankfully, all of this will make more sense later... v.]
