Heartening? Why? Aren't you enough already?
'Heartening' because we have all been concerned that the average age at one of Leonard's concerts is rather high. We don't want his work to fade away just because we do. It is exciting that the present concert tour and the publicity being generated are bringing Leonard to a whole new younger audience. We charge you, and your generation, with the holy duty of keeping his flame alight for the next fifty years ... and then passing it on to your grandchildren!

Gee, I didn't expect anyone to respond so soon  ... now I have an Edited line for nothing more than changing "with" to "in" regarding people's ages  . I refuse to return now to turn a comma into a semi-colon, even if it is more proper ;-) ~ can't handle two Editeds.

Yes, Stamatina ~ Hydriot is saying the same thing I did and we really, really, really mean it. In his original entry into the music world, he was our discovery. We knew he had the qualities that would last; yet, there's nothing like seeing the clear and convincing evidence. Even your singing along with "Ain't No Cure" and your friends laughing at the dreamy look on your face. This is something we understand so well; but dreamy looks don't look as good on us as they once did, and look wonderful on you. I can so easily imagine it because Leonard touches hearts.

Your words brought me images of myself as a grandmother, rocking my grandchildren to sleep while singing Leonard's songs in a low voice. Songs like Bird on the Wire, Sisters of Mercy and Night Comes On. Weird thought, but it's nice, isn't it?.

I think I can see what you mean. However, I can hardly imagine people of my generation ten years later, admiring Cohen's work half as much as I do, the way they grow up is much different than the way you did. But maybe you're right. Only time will tell.
Leonard's music is the something I cannot imagine living without.
Today it was a really bad day, I fought with three different people and my mood was extremely bad. All it took me to relax and smile confidently, as I usually do, was six minutes on my bed, staring at the ceiling silently, while listening to The Window.
The voice, the music, the lyrics, fall on me like a veil and erase everything from my mind, leaving only a strange sense of being tucked in a very warm hug. It's the only way I can describe it and I'm not sure it's enough.

Is The Window your favourite song?
I made my daughter a birthday card based on that song last summer, but she is much older than you (24)

It is wonderful how his music can "gentle the soul"...

No, but I do love it, exactly because of what you said:

Interesting. I wish my mother cared to do something like that.

Walking into a favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant/bar tonight and LC was finally on their new jukebox (had to request songs previously so the machine would download them). Put in the only 3 songs available and as soon as the first song started playing a young server runs in the bar area saying, "OMG, I didn't know LC was on this jukebox. I LOVE Leonard Cohen!". He's been a fan for only 4 years, but in that short span of time has really come to appreciate all LC encompasses. Bonus, our favorite bartender Leo, who has heard me rave about LC for many years, starting singing 'Everybody Knows' over and over to himself (without even realizing it) after hearing this version from the 'I'm Your Man' cd. He previously only heard Don Henley's cover of this song and just didn't get it, but discovered that there may be something to 'this old guy'.

Best regards,
Mary

Thank you, Diana, both for your wishes and the flattering comment.

Colorado is rather far from where I live.
But still... interesting..

When I'm asleep at night, I always leave my computer switched on, playing music. I started doing this about two months ago and of course it's always Leonard's music (+ Anjani's). Five times so far, I've seen in my dreams my mother or my brother at some random place (cafe, home, wherever) and me with them jumping with delight, pointing out that the song playing right now is Leonard Cohen! This has happened with Tacoma Trailer, Humbled In Love, Morning Glory, Take This Waltz and Hallelujah.
I always wake up smiling after such a dream! My reaction in the dream is soooo realistic, soooo much exactly what I'd do if it happened in real life..!

I founded today from Youtube a funny improvisation called "Dance, Dance, Dance". Such a brilliant and spontaneus song from Leonard! Now I am sitting by my computer writing poem and I am humming "dadaa dadiidaa didaa daa didaadadii daa..."

I hope the link above works, beacuse I really enjoy this clip. It is "Closing Time" from the Edmonton concert, which I attended (whoo-hooo!!!!! April 25, 2009), and I think LC is particularly animated, and very fun to watch, espceially the last bit (from 5:04, although it is fun to see him grooving so much throughout!). I know the lighting isn't great, but it's from someone's phone, after all. It is the random LC moment I am adoring today!

The random LC moment I am adoring today are lovely video clips where Leonard sings duet with Anjani at Joe`s Bub. They two look so amorous and happy, they sing side by side, they look at each other with warmth and laugh in their eyes and they touch each other tenderly. I am just a fool and romantic so I cried for emotion when I watched to those clips. And I am so happy that Leonard has break for touring now so he can spend time with his stunning Anjani. :D

Gotta add here. Your joy is contagious.

My LC days, since school's been out (I'm a teacher) and since my son introduced me to him about two months ago, have been filled with buying I'm Your Man for my son and hearing my daughter thoroughly enjoy the loud "First we take Manhattan", buying the Field Commander Cohen and Various Positions and [/i]Songs of Leonard Cohen[/i]. I've read everything on the internet I can put my fingers to, just finished reading The Favorite Game two times (and it's lovely) and Stranger Music through and through. I hear his voice singing in my mind most every morning I waken and throughout the day when I need the pick-up. Sometimes I think that many people throughout the world must be listening to the same songs simultaneously.

I have to say I'm so grateful to him for picking up my life and moving me to higher ground. Ever since my son introduced me to him, my days have been sunnier, my thoughts have been clearer, and I have to admit that I think of him especially as it relates to his inner strength and ability to keep up with his schedule. Truth is, I'm smitten.

Oh, and I've watched his London concert over and over, and with my son, too. Sometimes I change the venue and just watch him without the music. Sometimes, I just play the music. I think one day I listened to Various Positions while watching him on DVD. I went on vacation to a cabin in the Appalachian mountains and took his DVD and album with me cause I couldn't leave him at home. I have so many favorite songs, and have memorized them quite easily. OH---and I bought his book of songs to play by guitar!!! and my son's in Denver right now learning some of them which I'll accompany by piano! My life's been so altered... Today I appreciated "Hunter's Lullabye" in a whole new way, as well as re-enjoyed "Hallelujah."
