Dear Sandman and others:
when people come onto this site, they are greeted by a picture of leonard, saluting to welcome his guests (...)
maybe you can close just the forum. this way you can still post news about leonard and pictures/poems leonard gives to the site.
The current consideration of closing down relates only to the Forum. Nothing is going to happen to the main site (http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com)!
We have received a lot of good suggestions and support. I will make the final decision after our Hydra meetup in June (will have there chance to discuss the whole business with a number of forum members, including several oldtimers)

Jarkko, I see that you recently (??) - well in any case I just noticed it recently - added Dick to your moderation team. Dick is also just great to deal with people, I always saw him sharing pleasant experiences, and interesting information, I never saw him taking side, I never saw him insulted anybody but in the contrary he was always friendly with all the users. So I modify my previous suggestion about you only to deal with people, here. (Who am I anyway, he? )

Thanks much for the vote of confidence

I do hope to be helpful to Jarkko, Tom, Pekka, and Tim -- but haven't contributed much yet.

I am hoping the decision will be to continue, probably with a few guidelines. But I too will understand if Jarkko decides it is just too burdensome for him.

Thanks again!

Thank you Jarkko for all you've done. I think the forum could have been saved if the Mad Mass Messaging Miss had been banned, but so it goes. At least we'll clear some bandwidth.

Dick, thanks for your answer. A forum like this is time consuming, indeed. Thanks also to all the moderators you have named for their effort in helping Jarkko. It is really unfair to put the responsibility on MMMM for ALL the difficulties encountered in this forum, when the responsibility is on the shoulders of every users. Otherwise it is too burdensome for anybody, I mean for anybody who has a normal day of 24 hours : it would take 10 mod/person. 8) Including having the right to read PMs. I understand Jarkko. I would trade all the trouble of managing alone this forum as it is right now against a few Mythos in Greece ANY TIME. :D

Dick,
I made you a creed.
Memorize it! ...
A Moderator's Creed
(with apologies to Maj Gen WH Rupertus)

This is my forum.
There are many like it, but this one is MINE.
My forum is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life.
My forum without me is useless. Without my forum, I am useless.

I must edit my forum true.
I must delete straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me.
I must delete him before he deletes me. I will...

My forum and myself know that what counts in war
are not the flames we temper, the noise of our splits,
nor the locks we make.
We know it is the deletes that count. We will delete...

My forum is human, even as I, because it is my life.
Thus, I will learn it as a brother.
I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts,
its accessories, its sights, and its barrel {?sic}.

I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.
I will keep my forum clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.
We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God I swear this creed.
My forum and myself are the defenders of our subject.
We are the masters of trolls.
We are the saviors of the on-topic post.
So be it, until there is no spam, but PEACE.

Another solution : don't close the forum, let it without any moderation, and change "The Guests" for "In My Secret Life". Just a joke. Of course.

Congrats to Dick. Congrats also to Tim - a wise and straightforward person who will no doubt be a great asset as a moderator.

How the hell you both will sort out this rabble I have no idea, though  .

I know,- I should have been.
But the position was already taken.

I hope you realize that I didn't write that creed, though.
I just changed a few words in a famous one.

The original
http://www.cs.rice.edu/~ssiyer/minstrel ... /1110.html
was branded on my brain a long time ago.
Along with a few other very positive precepts, like:

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I shall fear no evil. For I'm the meanest m***** f***** in the valley."

So, there ought to be a boot-camp for moderators, to toughen them up
for the job. Geoffrey could be a drill instructor.

(Actually a lot of people here would make good drill instructors (DIs),
since the main requirement for it is a good facility with colorful motivational language.
And a peculiar sense of logic.)

OMG, I forgot to include the Self-Sanctimonious, Scatalogical Sycophants of the Mad Mass Messaging Miss. They eventually find out, some sooner than later, they are dupes of the MMMM. Too bad the Forum is going under or MMMM would eventually turn on you like all the other SSSS's. Then you'd have to acknowledge thou art the Two-Legged Turd! Ppffffttttttttttt:-)

MMMM + SSSS = No Forum for the rest of us.

BTW, I am a manly Three-Legged Turd!!! LOL.

I don't like everyone, but I try, and I like Lizzy. I have known her for as long as I've been a member here, which I know isn't very long. But she's never been mean to me. And if I'm being duped, what business of it is anyone else's?

I am not a fan, and much less am I a sycophant. I think it's easier to be duped by someone who has 16 posts than by someone who has 16,000 or there abouts. I can check Lizzy if I want. I don't believe the forum's problems are because we have a Lizzy, whom I've never seen be less than nice (though I've heard she's capable, and this is a comfort).

If I lose, let me lose.
I don't care how much I lose.

I agree with you Manna,i like Lizzy as well. She is always kind.Ok she posts alot but it dosen't bother me.I can't keep up with her even if i tried.
But some people despise kindnes,in their own hearts of stone they look on it as being weak and do not tolerate it.
