Tony Palmer said that the DVD will be available in Krakow (at the Event), then general sale a bit later.

Leonard Cohen Bird On A Wire Film Restored and Ready For Release

In 1972 Leonard Cohen was considered to be one of the major singer song writers of the modern rock era. It was decided then to make a film about Leonard at work on tour and in more relaxed “Off Duty” periods. The film was entitled Bird on a Wire and featured some fantastic performance footage. The film was directed by the celebrated British film director Tony Palmer was released in late 1972. It was thought that the film had been lost until more than thirty film canisters were discovered in late 2009. The canisters contained the original 16 mm print of the film and in 2010 with Leonard Cohen once again at the forefront of popular music Tony Palmer has lovingly restored the film to its original glory by going back to the original print. The film now runs to 145 minutes and when it is released on DVD will include many extras and previously unseen footage making this the ultimate package for Leonard Cohen fans.
--- The film now runs for 1 hour 46 minutes, not 145 min!

Thanks a lot for your efforts, bridger :) And what a sweet picture of you with Mr Palmer!
Can't wait to see what really is different in the restored version, especially since it is so much longer than the bootleg that has been passed around. ;-)

.. I mostly post in the Poetry by Forum Members section.. but I just have to say, I adore your name: Puddingdale (!)..

.. is it a place?.. (could I move there maybe??).. I should think there'd be no unhappiness there.. none at all.. though the locals might be a bit plump, methinks (!)..

.. if you have a Puddingdale story.. do please share..

kindly,
v i o l e t

Hi there, Violet! I can understand that, as a writer, you must love the name. ;-) However, I am afraid "Puddingdale stories" do not really belong in a thread about the most revealing (hehe) re-release of a movie ever ;)
So, I will just try and cut it short:
Puddingdale is a fictional place from a Trollope novel (The Barchester Chronicles). It's a tiny English town where no career-hungry clergyman wants to be sent to (ever) but where the mischievous Obadiah Slope ends up in the end... Well, sounds dull but is very funny - especially in the BBC series starring Alan Rickman. :D

.. oh, my god, and I adore Alan Rickman (!).. (couldn't he play Leonard, don't you think?)..

.. so Trollope.. hmm.. (hasn't his name become something of a slight?.. I have to look that up somehow.. but the BBC show sounds right up my alley, actually)..

okay.. I shall leave this thread to its higher purposes*..

gratefully,
v i o l e t (flower)..

* oh.. and am looking forward to such "revelations".. (you see.. I've actually yet to read this thread).. (but your name.. it captured me)..

[later note]: well, I've read through this thread this evening.. and was very moved by the footage of Leonard backstage after singing "Marianne".. to see him in tears brought me to tears, actually.. rather lovely..

.. I look forward to seeing all these old films, as I've yet to... (oh.. and as I have insomnia, I'm celebrating by removing a good deal of my "pudding comments" that I had here earlier)..
