Lizzy, I like Loreena McKennitt's A Winter Garden very much!
Her rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" is truly beautiful!
And I just love "Good King Wenceslas", partly because it brings back memories of my schooldays, when I was about ten years old - we learned to sing this beautiful Christmas song in our English lessons.

Mike, another suggestion for your Christmas CD(s) would be
"The Rebel Jesus" by Jackson Browne.

They are??? The one I have them on is "a winter garden." I selected just one from the cd because I didn't want to overwhelm poor Mike, so went with what seemed to be the most universally recognizable of them. However, Susanne, they're all wonderful ~ and any/all of them would be fine ! That's great that you have a childhood attachment to one. I've heard [and can understand how] songs are a good way to learn another language. Easier to remember the words and all.

Lizzy and all, The music Loreena mixed with God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen is Arabic not Jewish. Both races are Middle Eastern Semites but have evolved quite different cultures. Biblically they have different ancestors.

Thanks for that clarification, Lightning. It's a rhythm that is reminiscent of some of the songs I remember singing in several Born-Again Christian churches I've attended. They were always my favourite songs, and I've somehow always considered that rhythm "Jewish." However, as you say "Arabic," I think, "Yeah ~ Arabic." So, thanks. Next time, I try to describe them, I'll be able to do it accurately .

Well, don't know where you're at with your compilation [2, 3, 4 discs?]. However, I've just listened to Allison Crowe's cd, "Tidings / 6 songs for the season." It's well worth getting, and you could easily include her "Hallelujah," "O Holy Night," "Angel" [In The Arms Of], or "Silent Night" with pride . Actually, you could just as easily include your choice of any of them, "In the Bleak Midwinter," and "Shine A Light" being the other two. Having spoken to "Hallelujah" previously, I'll speak to the rest. I love solo piano, and it's hard to believe she's playing whilst she sings, executing both so powerfully ~ and gloriously . Along with "Hallelujah," her piano interludes and vocalizing, throughout, and in "O Holy Night" and "Angel," are worth the cd. Great energy . I keep getting chills as I listen to the whole of it. She shares my taste in seascape paintings, as well

The compilation was slight hit, but I've been so busy this Christmas season I was only able to distribute it to close friends, but even though the holidays are over if there is a request I'll mail it.

A friend of mine had a good idea for next season. To make the CD into a DJ monologing it. It sounds like a fun idea for next Christmas so I'm looking forward to that project.
