As others have said, it's the lyrics of course.
Speaking of undifferentiated weirdness [very apt description, by the way 8) ], some things just compel a person to comment.

This time, it's me with the above ~ its form so reminiscent of men's rationale for reading Playboy  .

Welcome to the world of reading and writing, Tom :D . I felt the urgency in your initial moments of Cohen... interesting [to me, anyway  ] how, even after all this time, I STILL get those feelings when I listen:

And the songs are old
But they're always new

Well, I guess you caught me. When I first heard LC -- about 15/16 years ago, I was a "reader" of playboy -- for the articles, of course.

Seriously, though, one of the things that really attracted me was the combination of sensuality and spirituality in his words. I had just earlier been reading some of Milan Kundera's novels in which I found that same combination in a similar way. I know it's a cliche, but those two guys changed my life -- really and radically.

To alter a bit my earlier note, it was probably LC's voice that first drew my attention in my friend's car back in 1991/92, but the combination of words and phrases has kept my attention since.

Yeah, yeah... :) if I knew your age and did the math, I'd have a better feeling for the veracity of that comment... likely the reason the two frames of reference melded so solidly in your cortex  .

I know it's a cliche, but those two guys changed my life -- really and radically.

Well, as you know, cliches only become that because what they're about have happened so remarkably and/or so often. Either way, it works for this 'cliche' regarding Leonard... most of us here have no trouble understanding it.

I'm not familiar with the author, but Judith likely knows him.

Oh, yes... on Everybody Knows, Leonard's voice, and the rhythm and cadence are compelling. No trouble believing your alteration 8) .

Top of the Morning to You, LizzaLu:

As much as I wish I'd coined it, the author of the expression is the one-and-only Frank Zappa (21 December 1940 — 4 December 1993), frontman for The Mothers of Invention, husband of Adelaide Gail Sloatman, and father of Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen.

Speaking of cosmic woo-woos, however, ~greg mentioned Lenny Bruce and Zappa, coincidentally, utterly worshipped the comedian. He died of prostate cancer; but, his status / stature as agitator and outspokesperson will never fade. Outrageously audacious, the self-described "practical conservative" also wrote a lovely tune about Catholic girls; but, you can read a decent overview of the life and work of the artist I've always felt looked exactly the way I imagined Christ would look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa

His political and philosophical utterances, neologisms, and coinages are memorable in their own right; but, for your endless enjoyment, you can check this Zappa Quote of the Day 'site out of the Netherlands:

http://www.science.uva.nl/~robbert/zappa/quote/

Today's gem originates in "Dumb All Over," _You Are What You Is_: "Whoever we are, whereever we're from, we should have noticed by now our behaviour is dumb and, if our chances are expected to improve, it's gonna take a lot more than trying to remove the other race or the other whatever, from the face of the planet altogether."

Love, Bo
p.s. You can prolly see why I adore him, given the upsical lyricality of his blastin' kaboom of bloomin' doom-and-gloomery
p.p.s. LuDawg's chomping at the bit as I e-tap; she's demanding I inform you she's a grrl dawg, not a boy, g-r-r-r-r . . .
p.p.p.s. JSYK, Rob can quote up to eight lines of your published material as long as he attributes it to you properly (which he did), according to the Berne Convention and DMCA (so, you can neither sue nor invoice him, not that I thought you actually would, of course)

Whooops a Wooffy ~ This is not the first nor the second, but quite possibly the third time I've made that near unforgiveable error in the land of owners or ownees, as the case may be, and with this very same darling dog! She's even talked to me on the phone... and now that you call attention to it one more/LAST time... I remember her voice being distinctly feminine.

I prostrate [no, not prostate] myself before HER Majesty one mooooore time... if I hadn't met that man who even spelled his name Lu, I might not be so LuGirl challenged...

I'll even backtrack and give myself however many edited lines it takes to get her back over into the correct gender. Howzat?

Please tell her I understand her GRRRrrrrr feelings and it won't happen again. How many times have we been at the vet's office and, upon hearing the wrong sex called, we try to politely insert the "Yes, he . . . " or "Yes, she . . . ," as appropriate, as [and even time seems of the essence in these cases  ] soon as possible, so our dear loved one's identity can return to its normal, state of integrity. It's part of who they are for heaven's sake :D .

I'm soorrrrrry, LuDogg [not sure if she's well rested this morning, so I'll only go this far :) ]

Love,

 This is great [italics mine]. He even says it all poetical like.

The Mothers of Invention... I wish I still had that first album of theirs that I got when it was their first album. I remember it well as a window into another world 8) . I can even hear, even though I haven't heard it in many years, somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind, the particular clanging of instruments.

Hi Jaked ~

I know that we're all on Death Row as we live this life on earth. Still, your cryptic messages give the impression that you may be on the one we know as such, or that it may be nearby, still behind bars... I've not heard of D.R. inmates having computers or laptops, though one may never know these days. Any inclination to clarify?

lyrics. the first album i picked up by him was songs of love and hate. although not my favorite album by him anymore...i thought it was a really moody one and exciting for me to hear at the time.
