Hi Iubita ~

I really like the hologram analogy you've made. On a splendid, taped interview, with Mitch Corber, that I recently received, Leonard said something very close [will get the exact wording and edit this later] to, "when I write, I am like a man just trying to get[?]/keep[?] the bees off his face." I wondered as I heard that, and as I've read here, what it might be like for someone who has visions [the prophecies of prophets? ~ the visions of the blessed?] and the understandable compulsion to get what he's seen and/or perceived, recorded ~ and accurately. The hologrammic vision[s] of the world through his eyes could come with the same kind of urgency....and attendant, stinging pain of the particular vision, itself. I believe that his hologram is, indeed, significantly different than ours and that of most other people.

lizzy, estonia is an ex-soviet union country situated at the north-east of europe, south of finland.

tom,
i do not know leonard, and can't realy know if any of this is true, but it's often the case with artists (and not only with artists)...
it's often said that a good child psychiatrist is in most cases a bad father. therefore, knowing something has diferent levels.
child psychiatrist knows what a good father should be like, but it doesn't mean he'll remember that when he'll deal with his own child.
i think many artists also address problems, even offer solutions, but it doesn't mean they can, in their own lives use that knowledge as they should. i think that they can only use that knowledge in their art.
would leonard be a good politician?
or bob dylan? or phil ochs (who barely ever wrote about anything but politics)?

so, my point is:
those of us who only know leonard by his art, don't know on which level this striped down knowledge we all agree his songs posssess, works.
but if you know more about him than i do (i don't usualy read mush about lives of my favorite artists), you're in much better position to judge this issue.

Thank you everybody for welcoming me to the forum. I'm very glad to be here :)
I said that i'd ask Leonard if he felt as if he had anything to teach the world with his songs... Well I think he does but i'm not sure if he feels that way himself. He is a great source of inspiration to all of his fans.
I think his songs are so great because he has the ability to look at the world critically...all great artists do. They are sentsitive to the negative sides of the society and they have the talent and courage to express it.
They also express it so originally that it sticks out and people just have to notice it. And as all great ideas, it has supporters and it has haters...
Actually to tell you the truth... I'd ask him such a question to see his personality. Would he say reply something modest, would he feel as a leader of somesort or would he feel like Oscar Wilde:"I have nothing to declare but my genious"

Greta, i think that behind the exterior of an artiste and performer that Leonard would be quite shy and modest.
His words and songs may be inspirational but beneath it, he is the same as you and me.

I agree. But i wanted to provoce him just a little to see what he would anwser  I'm interested if fame does change people or not.
But i do think only good of him .. Even if he was proud and a"star" i think he is now old enough to see the point of the question and only laugh at me a little :D

With age comes wisdom and fame can feed the ego. I think LC has eaten a long time ago and now relies on wisdom.

That's a funny way of putting it, George ~ as in humourous. True, as well. Yes, Greta ~ when you start seeing footage of Leonard in videos, you will see how much humility he has, and actually has had for a long time. I still think your question is valid, and that you would appreciate the way Leonard would choose to answer it. I also think that the two of you would enjoy a good smirk together, regarding your having asked  .

I think that I would ask Leonard Cohen to play my guitar, if I was pretty sure that it wouldn't embarrass him. Preferably when I have a decent acoustic guitar. :D

Either that, or if he wanted another cup of coffee.

Welcome to the forum, Rhodes. I hope you'll enjoy your stay around here, and you'll make it a long one. I like your self description, pushing the pen a little bit and being vain enough to try playing the six string orchestra myself...

I don't think Leonard would be embarassed by you offering your guitar, but it might well be that he'd embarass both of us by really playing it, and making us look like the ones approaching 70...

The coffee, however, should be safe, though the last coffee I tried to drink in England finally taught me the lesson why the English prefer tea... :)

Thank you. I certainly intend to hang around here.

I would happily be embarrassed by Mr C's playing in the circumstances.

With your name ending in "d.stiller", I had rather assumed that ou enjoyed something a little stronger than tea or coffee... :)

Oh Rhodes... did I mention my time in Scotland? (There are some of the most decent d.stiller-ies in the world...)

PS: I added the words in italics...
