What an honour indeed! I'm ashamed to say that although I live in Ottawa, only a short walking distance from the Parliament Hill and the Peace Tower, I wasn't there. Thank you for the link, I loved listening to it. No, not the finest cover ever, but haunting and beautiful just the same. And quite an honour. I'm so proud! :)

Thanks for the nice post, Linda, and for putting this into perspective! It is absolutely fantastic that Leonard's Hallelujah was chosen for this (you didn't have to convince me!). I must admit that the first time I listened to it, it took a minute or so to pick out the tune, but once one gets used to the chiming, one can practically sing along (well, that's what I did! ).

I watched a national news broadcast on July 1st that had coverage of Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, hoping that someone would mention it, but the Queen seems to have stolen the spotlight!

Sturgess, I want to thank you for your post - you have communicated the significance of this honor, to The Man & his magnificent song, very well!! And thank you for the very beautiful pictures of the Peace Tower & the carillon - the pics really impart a sense of the majesty of the occasion. It must have been quite magical to hear the bells in person. I'm so glad this honor has been bestowed upon Our Beautiful Leonard Cohen, by the people of his beloved homeland, & I do hope it brought some joy to his great fathomless heart, & a big smile to his gorgeous face!!!

thank you to everyone who has kept us up to date on this. . .
