Tineke, that was me - it is what I like to hear, so I suppose my brain hears it as "moths" rather than "moss"
some more lines that get me are:
"For now I need your hidden love,
I'm cold as a new razor blade.
You left when I told you I was curious,
I never said that I was brave."
and
"Yeah,I've loved you all my life, and that's how I want to end it."
also pretty much ALL the lines from Avalanche

I thought the correct was "moths"?

But after checking it just now, I see that it is actually "moss". Either one fits well. I just always pictured it in my mind as opening an old trunk stored away in an attic, finding an old scrapbook and moths flying out. Moss still gives the feel of a dusty, dank, abandoned attic or storeroom where one would find that old scrapbook. Just goes to shoe you sometimes have to look things up to be sure.

I really know and understand why it`s:
`Let me start again
Please, let me start again
I want a face that`s fair this time
I want a spirit that is calm`.
But I can only hear, and want to hear: I want a faith that`s fair this time
Fits so much better for me, feels like the only right word and meaning in that line/song.

I`ll always go for " Take This Walz"
...there is a concert hall in Vienna..."
this song brings back so many nice memories, cause
I grow up in Vienna...!
Headphone into my ears and dancing thru the house,
but only when nobody can watch me
and if I get absoluetly crazy then it must be
ALWAYS... " need a helping hand...
oh yes, sometimes while dancing thru the room
I really NEED a helping hand

Love the image of the trunk, it follows the image in:
There's an attic where children are playing
Where I've got to lie down with you soon
In a dream of Hungarian lanterns
In the mist of some sweet afternoon
Was also slightly disappointed when I read 'Moss'. I always imagined moths' wings caught in the scrapbook.

I agree - 'moths' seems so appropriate. Can't wrap my head around 'moss'

You will never see a man this naked
I will never hold a woman this close
Let´s be alone together
let´s see if we´re that strong
And I´ll leave with you one broken man
whom I will teach you to repair

I find that most, if not all, of Leonard's songs are quite visual to me. His words are so expressive that I can "see" the song as much as I hear it.

When I listen to Leonard Cohen, sometimes lines I've heard a thousand times before jump out of context and get a new meaning. They make me smile, cry or think. Here are some lines that really got me in the last years.
I balance on a wishing well that all men call the world
I'm wanted at the traffic-jam.
They're saving me a seat.
(This comes to my mind every morning when I go to work

)
Ah baby, let's get married,
we've been alone too long.
Let's be alone together.
Let's see if we're that strong.
Lost in the rages of fragrance
Lost in the rags of remorse
Lost in the waves of a sickness
That loosens the high silver nerves

'So the great affair is over but whoever would have guessed
it would leave us all so vacant and so deeply unimpressed
It's like our visit to the moon or to that other star
I guess you go for nothing if you really want to go that far.'
'The river is swollen up with rusty cans
and the trees are burning in your promised land' (coupled with the glee in his voice when he's singing it on the album)
'I don't mean to suggest that I loved you the best
I don't keep track of each fallen robin
I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
That's all, I don't even think of you that often.'
PS - I always heard 'moss' not 'moths', it fits for me better

That just goes toe show: Interpretation of lyrics as of paintings or sculpture is extremely personal. These are Leonard Cohen's words when an interviewer's interpretation of 'dance me to the end of Love' differed from Leonards thoughts at the basis of the song:
‘I think that if a song comes from a deep place it will have a wide embrace.’
'Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove'
.....
'Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn'
Beatiful lines intense lines. A wedding song?

Suddenly the night has grown colder.
The god of love preparing to depart.
Alexandra hoisted on his shoulder,
They slip between the sentries of the heart.
By the rivers dark
Where I could not see
Who was waiting there
Who was hunting me.
Leonard Cohen paints wonderful pictures with words. In these lines I can 'feel' the cold and the fear in the dark.
