You're absolutely right, Mike. I'm laughing not at you, but rather because you've said it so well. However, simply on principle, I must express myself on the side of Leonard from time to time. Dylan has certainly surpassed Leonard in quantity, no question. Quality, however, is another issue. I really do truly feel that he
is the all-time
best writer,
the master of the word. I won't argue that that's debatable, in the sense that some will debate it. However, my own opinion will remain the same.
Now, why must we even 'go there' is a different matter altogether. There's nothing wrong with celebrating both of their contributions in the same place, that place being here. With all I've said, I still love Dylan and his music. He was the first to bring me into this realm of music. Yet, Leonard goes beyond even that. However, your points are correct on the "my daddy, your daddy" ~ particularly since we'll never come to a workable conclusion, anyway.

Cohen Knight...Dylan's last release is truly remarkable. In my honest opinion for some time now I've felt his best effort ever. The weird thing is it kinda slowly wove its way into my consciousness without me making an active effort to listen coz' initially I didn't like it so much.
As for the rest of this thread, I really liked Tom Sakic statement he made on another thread "It seems me and Bob cannot find our way with each other". Thought that was real classy way of putting it.
It must be inherently arrogant to say that becoz' I like so and so best, he must be the best. Therefore, my music taste is the best !!
Personally, my tastes are quite promiscuous...I don't feel the need to be on any artist's side or align myself with any particular artiste. I'll take good music from wherever it comes.

Well, dear Kush, I'll take good music from whatever way it comes, too

. However, what I feel is what I feel. I'll be true to that, as well. It's a winking compulsion to outwardly express what is a given with me. I agree with you on the classiness of Tom's means of expression regarding Bob

.

Hey Yank,
Someone should make a Leonard Cohen tribute album and call it:
We Can't Stand Bob Dylan: A Tribute To Leonard Cohen and His Music

why do you ask who is the greatest? why don't you ask "who is the most beautiful one?", disagree completly on the choices, and start another trojan war? at the end we shall know for sure wheater is bob or not...
i appologize on the tone, but this kind of arguments pisses me off...

Three names came up in this thread: Cohen, Dylan, Waits...
All three share an inspiring truth. After 30 plus years of songwriting, the most recent effort from each artist is one of their best. This is a quote from Steve Earle I believe, "Townes Van Zandt is the greatest American songwriter. I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table with my cowboy boots on and say that..." But I ask you Mr. Earle, is it necessary to stand on a man's table and shout your opinion of him.(Damn funny though

) I'll stand on my record player and shout "If it were not for these four folks I would be a much different person today."

TVZ's response to that was "Mr. Earle, I've met Bob Dylan's bodyguards and if you think you can stand on his coffee table you are damn well mistaken."
