Hello,
Another second poster here, first one was a very delayed review of sorts of the Auckland, New Zealand show of January 2009.
I'm Cullen, I'm 18 and I love Leonard Cohen. I was practically raised with Leonard Cohen by my dad but really started to appreciate his music when I was about 15. I was born in London, England, but moved to Holland when I was 5. I lived there for 7 years until my family and I moved to Auckland, New Zealand. I have since moved a little south and am now attending University and living with friends in Hamilton.
I was very lucky to get the opportunity to see Leonard last year, when he came to Auckland. It was truly amazing and I would love to go to the scheduled Auckland show, but I cannot afford a ticket due to being a University student. It's a hard life!
Leonard is one of two musical acts that will always stay with me, the other being R.E.M. I've grown up with them, and they both seem to be able to make the good, and bad times, better.
It's hard for me to pick a favourite song or album, as they change as frequently as the New Zealand weather! However, I do believe in what Diana, or ladydi, wrote earlier in this thread and that "[Leonard's] music and poetry will touch you when the time is right, and it will forever find a place within your heart." I had this recently with First We Take Manhattan. I had just left home permanently after having trouble with my mother my whole life, and the song just seemed to speak to me. Touched me. I'll never forget that moment. It made me realise that I have potential as a human being, and am capable of great things no matter what anybody else says. That may not be what the song is about, but that's what it communicated me at that time.
Funnily enough, I realised right now that R.E.M. actually covered First We Take Manhattan! Funny how things work out!
Anyway, I hope to enjoy the fruits this forum has to offer, and indulge in many Cohen-centric discussions with fellow Leonard-lovers

Christoff - never say never. A few years ago, most people never anticipated that LC would tour again and look what happened!
Sophia - how appropriate that you would be welcomed to the forum by Sophia! It's a shame you missed LC in Athen in July of 2008.
Lindsay - looking forward to meeting you in Vegas!
John - I have the utmost respect for the original members. Have seen other comments where there seems to have been discord, but all people are different and even though we all share the same love for all things LC, interpretations of his work vary and will continue to be fodder for debate. We cannot always agree to everything. Hopefully, you'll find things a little more civilized now. There will still be the occasional uncalled for remark, but the majority of the forum is a gentle place to be. Will see you in Vegas.
Cullen - what a pity you can't attend another show, but it is fantastic that you did get to see him live at least once! I appreciate you sharing your story with us. The impact LC's music had on your outlook on your life is so overwhelming. He does that for so many. I hope you can find some resolution to your personal family life in the future. It is enough for now that you have found some piece of mind with the help of LC.
Serena - what a great concert you attended!
Welcome and I hope you all continue to come back. I look forward to more posts from everyone!
Best regards,
Mary

“Mary” !!
Not this Mary?
While Gazing On The Moon's Light
By Thomas Moore
While gazing on the moon's light,
A moment from her smile I turn'd,
To look at orbs, that, more bright,
In lone and distant glory burned.
But too far
Each proud star,
For me to feel its warming flame;
Much more dear,
That mild sphere,
Which near our planet smiling came;
Thus,
Mary, be but thou my own;
While brighter eyes unheeded play,
I'll love those moonlight looks alone,
That bless my home and guide my way.
The day had sunk in dim showers,
But midnight now, with lustre meek,
Illumined all the pale flowers,
Like hope upon a mourner's cheek.
I said (while
The moon's smile
Play'd o'er a stream, in dimpling bliss),
The moon looks
On many brooks,
The brook can see no moon but this;
And thus, I thought, our fortunes run,
For many a lover looks to thee,
While oh! I feel there is but one,
One Mary in the world for me.
(Brid (Lonndubh) put me onto this wonderful poem about a “Mary”, just today!)
Mat.

Hi - I too am new to this forum. Thought I died and went to heaven at my first LC concert, last year in San Jose. Was thrilled to learn he's finishing with some US stops this year!! Going to Oakland, Portland, AND Vegas (after all, who knows if I'll ever get a chance again, right? -- need to get as filled up as I can!!). Have a question though -- is Sharon not on this tour?
Thanks
Leslie

Hi everyone. My name is Helen. I have been a Leonard Cohen fan for a few years now and have attended quite a few concerts since 2008 with my husband Scott (who is already a member). We both love Leonard’s music and will be attending both concerts in Las Vegas.
I have enjoyed reading the Forum for some time but only recently decided to register. We already know some members of the forum from previous meet ups at concerts and hope to meet some of you again, as well as new friends.
The hard work of everyone involved in running and maintaining this great forum is appreciated.
Regards,
Helen

Hi all,
I've actually posted before but I never properly introduced myself. My name is Liz and I am from Cambridge, MA. I was first introduced to Leonard 8 years ago, the summer after my senior yr in highschool. I stumbled across his music after a friend dragged me to a Ben Folds concert that Rufus Wainwright opened for. Rufus of course encored with an amazing cover of "Hallelujah" and I was hooked. Incidently, a few weeks later I saw the film "Secretary" that features Leonard's "I'm Your Man" that sealed the deal.
I finally took the plunge and bought myself a ticket to see Leonard in Portland, Oregon. My seat number is Row 1, Seat 3 on the Floor. Come say hi! I'll be the rather short woman with curly, unruly hair, acting as if I am at a Beatles concert circa the 1960's.
Cheers,
Liz

Natalia - so glad you got to see LC and his band in a live performance. It is a truly fantastic experience.
Helen - I didn't realize you were not a forum member. It's about time you joined. Now you might have to fight Scott for forum computer time

Looking forward to seeing both of you again in Vegas!
Liz - if this is your first LC concert, you are in for the time of your life! Especially with your primo seat!
Welcome to all of you to the forum. Will be waiting to hear more from you.
Best regards,
Mary

Hey there!

My name is Nataša and I'm new to this forum.
A good friend of mine introduced me to Leonard Cohen's music about a year ago and I've immediately fallen in love with his voice, his poetry...
A few days ago, I was lucky enough to see him perform in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and have to say it was an event I wouldn't want to miss for anything!
I'm sure this forum will feel like home for all the time I spend here.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
Regards,
Nataša
