I have been reliably informed that a raffle has taken place to determine who buys the first round of eighty eight drinks and I am pleased to announce that Ken is the lucky winner .

as it has already been decided by the organisers that this is to be an alcohol-free event i thought i would organise something to make up for the lack of alcohol
so as it's a leonard cohen event I thought I would like to organise some VIP packages for the weekend…
…these would be for that ever-growing group of gullible oops sorry I mean discerning leonard cohen fans
the silver VIP package would consist of one of the prints shown below and seats at the front of the coach
plus an all-expenses-paid evening meal with henning (drinks extra)
the diamond VIP package would consist of the two prints and seats at the front the coach plus a private meet up with henning for cocktails followed by an
all-expenses-paid evening meal with henning (including all drinks)
It must be stressed that these artworks are not the work of leonard cohen but have been executed in 'the style' of leonard cohen
they have been printed on A4 80gsm. high white inkjet printer paper and have not been signed or numbered by the artist
prices will be announced nearer the date and tickets will be 'will call' 5 minutes before the event starts in the back room the róisín dubh pub on lower dominick street and CASH ONLY….

"In a few years when the LC walking tours have grown bigger and bigger and professionals will take over the job to organize groups of hundreds and thousands of fans to meander together with the LC smile on the face and the LC tune on the lips there will always be thought of those 8 pioneers who started the whole energetic group action on September 11, 2009 with the ascendance on Cadair Idris and reaching the summit at 2.54 in the afternoon. The names will be engraved in stone at each parking lot to the feet of Cadair Idris:
Dave Everett, Ken Forsythe, Christoph Franz, Henning Franz, John Morris, Tim Vincent, Diane Williams, Joe Way"
.......

Ah yes, Oblivion and Caren, I remember it well. Henning tried to make out he had reached the summit first, but the boss didn't reach those dizzy heights. The day after Cadair idris, a good few more of us made it to the top of Snowdon. Unfortunately for me, who was trying to keep track of everyone, participants kept changing their clothing for the photos. I suggest Joe ropes everyone together.
I am so looking forward to meeting old friends and new, all 87 of you:-)!

i don't think the walk up Cadair Idris counts for much as it was just a training exercise for the inexperienced and unfit members of the group. the real mountaineers did not bother with small hills they just waited for the beast that is Snowdon

for those folk arriving via dublin airport and who wish to go straight to galway there are two very good coach services... city link and go bus
city link do an hourly commuter service at 30 minutes past each hour with a travel time of 4 hours
city link also do an express service at 15 minutes past each hour with a travel time of 3 hours
gobus also do an hourly service at 45 minutes past each hour with a travel time of 3 hours
all these services also pick up in dublin city centre
these timetables are for the 2012/2013 period new timetables will be published march/april this year but i will be surprised if there are any changes to the current timetable

Is there a decent train service that might be faster than the bus?

There is a train from Dublin Heuston station which takes about 2.5 hours; in the morning it runs about every 2 hours (07:35, 09:25..., 15:35) then almost hourly from 16:30 to 19:35.
But by the time you get to Heuston you may as well get the fast bus to Galway

Thanks,
I am still undecided between using Ryanair or taking a leisurely Sail and Rail option

I looked at the sail and rail option Margaret would have taken nearly 12 hours to get there. I have bitten the bullet and am going by Ryanair only 1 hour 10 minutes of absolute terror for me
