If Lightning is available, I would expect she'll be there... and would certainly have her videocamera with her. I don't know if she has a tripod... might just film all the rest of you.
One might also add another line to the plaque,
ARTIST, MENTOR, COMFORTER AND FRIEND
(or at least ARTIST)
I love this idea! Mentor, comforter, and friend... so true. And, yes, artist, of course!

Dear whomever this may concern,

My name is Lucy Mae Martin, and I design and create headstones.
I work with very professional artists on a regular basis. If Leonard Cohens plaque has not yet been created, I can direct you to the most respected price available. I reside in LaConner, WA, and can have the plaque safely delivered to the Chelsea hotel in a timely fashion. Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,

Hello Lucy Mae,

Thanks very much. I "think" I may be speaking for everyone involved with Leonard's plaque but I believe everything has already been arranged. Appreciate your offer. If this is not the case Dick, feel free to reply.

All the best,
Diana

Chelsea Hotel plaque is great-I love its slightly 'edgy' dedication, just like Leonard's best lyrics.
(I know Dick, still have to contribute, £'s coming soon I promise :!: ).

What's the Hotel like for guests? Anyone stayed there recently?

I stayed one night 5 years ago as a one -off experience while in New York, and found it rather expensive. I am however more used to travelling on a budget!
According to the link I found below, the cheapest room around 23rd October is about $219 a night.

The rooms have been cleaned up quite a bit in recent months. October is part of their busiest time, thus higher prices than now. Don't forget to ask for Alison and request the Leonard Cohen forum discounts.

Thanks, Margaret and Dick. Hope to stay there, as you did, a one-off, for a special treat. Sadly, the words New York and inexpensive never seem to occur together in one sentence!

Apparently, there's a site called (I think) hotwire, where you can get discounts at well-known hotels..just you don't know which hotel till you pay. You can specify a location, though.

Hi Sourire,

There is, in fact, a very inexpensive hotel in NYC, just down the road from the Chelsea Hotel, on West 23rd street. It is called the Leo Convent and it is a former convent. The rooms are very clean, basic, there is no bar, but it serves an amazing breakfast that sets you up for the day. I stayed there 7 years ago along with 11 other friends. Come out the door, turn right and the Chelsea hotel is only a few metres down the street.

In song.

Hi Dick,
Just sent my donation for the plaque thru Paypal.
Let me know if you have any problems receiving the
funds. I'm going to give Allison @ the Chelsea a call
tomorrow to inquire about a room. Look forward to
meeting fellow LC fans on the 23rd.
Thanks Sue7 for guiding me to this post.

Cheers!
Freeman
New Orleans, LA.

Thanks Aloevera. Sounds like a good place..but the lure of the louche, historic, Chelsea Hotel has corrupted me. Must be a late reaction to my long-past convent school upbringing!

All the best :D

Dick

Has a time and day been set for the celebration? My apologies if I missed the post where it has been announced.

Still working on the time, but have confirmed October 23, sometime before the concert, will be our ceremony.

You will hear Chelsea Hotel #2

Leonard's Manager, Robert Kory, should be there.

Exact time hopefully soon!

Love back to you Paola!
