I can't help but think that the high prices have a lot to do with venue size & travel costs, not least the fact that the band are travelling around by private chartered jet. Thus, the US seemed to have the highest prices to date due to the distances travelled & (generally) smaller venues. In Europe, distances are often shorter and most if not all 2009 shows took place in huge arenas which must have helped to keep prices down.

Just did a little checking on other concerts in Moscow. Rod Stewart will also be at the Kremlin Palace and same prices on the seats as for Leonard. Prime seats but far to either the left or right are 20,000 rubles (US equivalent of $673.). However Metallica will be at the Olympic Sports Center and top ticket is 5000 rubles.....and U2 will be performing at a Sports Arena in August and max ticket is 8000 rubles. Interesting.....

The Russian seller mentioned in this thread is possibly a tout - I checked with the tour management and heard that Moscow tickets should NOT be on sale. I am waiting for more information.

All the concerts I have attended in North America have been the same price on all legs of the tour. All tickets I bought (from the first one in Montreal in June 2008 to the last in San Jose in November 2009) were a maximum of $250.

Thanks Jarkko for checking, and I know you had to add that it is possibly a tout. I will remain patient :) .

Mary - same here. The most expensive tickets were never over $250. (except when we went a little nuts and would keep buying better seats and then trying to sell the originals ;-) ) I fully expected to pay a little more for Moscow, but NOT over $400 more!

 ;-) I did just that with my Zagreb ticket :D I was too late for getting a good seat so bought one tribune ticket. I've never dreamed that the Slovenian ticket agency would offer 30 STANDING tickets to the VIP section! (with bus transfer from Ljubljana, which I really don't want, but called the agency and they told me it isn't obligatory) I still can't believe it so I won't try to sell my other ticket until I get my new one.

Hi majmunka, Good luck with your other ticket! Usually one can always find someone to buy an extra ticket. The only time I almost got myself in a mess was with Red Rocks in Colorado. I had purchased 2 seats in Row 3. Later Row 2 suddenly opened up (more expensive) and I bought 2 seats in Row 2. I know, I know.....only one row difference  I not only couldn't sell my tickets in Row 3, but the closer it got to the concert I couldn't even GIVE them away! I was sure I was going to be out those original 2 tickets! Well, the mountain gods prevailed and caused horrible weather on June 2nd which postponed the concert for 2 days, until June 4th. We had no problem waiting for another 2 days but the wonderful thing was that Ticketmaster offered complete refunds for any unused tickets on the 2nd....whew!!! Hopefully your sale won't be so stressful.... :D

You're right Mary, none of the primo seats in Canada and the US have been over $250, but at the very beginning, before Europe, you could get front row for $125 or less (please correct me, anyone, if my recollection is off). I think Montreal and Toronto were the exceptions. Plus, looking through my stubs, for the second Hamilton show on June 4, 2008, I purchased 2 3rd row center (primo) seats for $109 each including all charges.

I know, I'm whining and Wendy brought up a good point about the distances, but it still doesn't compute. In the beginning the venues were very small and relatively, so were the ticket prices.... Sorry for if I upset anyone and I will now let it go.

See you at some future concert :D and yes Bob, it's worth every penny ;-) :D .

Kindest regards,
Mary

I spoke to "kassir.ru" yesterday and got some elusive answers at the best. They may have some tickets directly from Kremlin Palace or whatever, the allocation of the tickets is strange itself and they also have 10% service fee so price of ticket is actually 22000,- rubles  I also think the price of tickets to Kremlin Palace might be a bit higher then usual but not this ridiculous. So, as Jarkko suggested, we wait for official announcement.
Good, old Ticketmaster...

Huh, I hope... At least these tickets weren't too expensive. I paid about 80 USD for the tribune 3rd row seat and 130 USD for the standing VIP one (incl. transfer). Not bad, compared to the Russian venue. (But all my friends think I'm nuts  )

majmunka,
I'm confused - you paid 80USD for a 3rd row seat? And where is the standing VIP? What ticket outlet? Diana, this may be what you're looking for.

Mary, They do indeed sound wonderful but majmunka is going to Zagreb! No time off. I did check out Bratislava but (you will appreciate this!) it takes forever to fly there from here...through AMS and PRG (a certain airline dropped their non-stop to Prague), and the "only" flight leaving Bratislava to connect to America (unless you stay overnight enroute) leaves at 2am in the morning through BUD! 0200...2am!! No one should be catching a flight at that horrible hour!! But, this gives me an idea. Forget all the major cities on the still unannounced tour...I'll hit all the smaller venues, even if flights leave at 2am! ;-) Too late for France now....best seats all taken. Instead of concentrating on Moscow I should have taken my time and hit every concert in France!

ps...majmunka, trust me....you are definitely NOT nuts! You're a Leonard Cohen fan... :D

Sorry, Mary, I didn't want to give you false hope. What I wrote about was Zagreb. (And the 3rd row is tribune, not front seat, but the standing one is just the front of the stage - I think, or better to say I hope) As I live in Budapest, I can easily go by bus or by train to Bratislava, Zagreb or even to Ljubljana. If someone considering these venues, should think about flights to Vienna. Bratislava is just 40 miles from Vienna, the train ride lasts about an hour. (The concert ticket prices to Bratislava are between 110-165 USD, no tickets to the VIP section) Alas, Zagreb is not so close, about 7 hours from Vienna.

Here is my interpretation. I think that the cost of the private jet instead of public transport is probably negligible enough not to impact greatly on ticket pricing. However, for a tour of this duration, incomes have to be provided for a substantial number of people, organisers, sound engineers, electricians, lighting engineers, pilots, coach drivers and the like... I don't know who exactly is involved, but I would have thought that there are a lot more people taking part in this venture than the few we actually see on stage. It is a huge undertaking and we only see the tip of the iceberg. The salaries, as well as cost of venues and publicity are bound to add up to significant sums. Differences in ticket pricing between various artists will perhaps be accounted for by the fact that some of them are only doing a few shows, a shorter tour, and with possibly fewer people; in that sense, they can be employing engineers etc. on short fixed-term contracts and that is bound to make the show cheaper. As for differences between countries, they could be accounted for by market research and an understanding of how much local people are ready to pay for the tickets, so that a sold out venue can be guaranteed. This will depend on the strength of the local currency and the economic situation in the actual country.

As always, this is only my humble opinion! :D

Edit: Just to add that this post by Jarkko would tend to support my first point: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=19834&start=210#p211375 :D
