I like your latest bursts of creativity!

I do not have any new creations to share, at the moment, but how about a photo? A little friend I made while out for a walk in the woods yesterday!

hei lisa.
cute little chickadee! i have never seen one of these. reminds me of westworld's 'akecheta'.
one of the drawbacks of living in a block is that residents are discouraged from hanging up nut feeders for birds. i miss that. during the winter months the poor little creatures must find it difficult to survive - and they are so important.
thank you for sharing this! you are so lucky :)

Hey Geoffrey, I’m glad you like the photo! Chickadees are such sweet and friendly little birds, and I love it when they are brave enough to perch on my finger and share a lovely moment with me! I am always amazed that they survive the winters — they are so small and delicate, and yet so resilient! And, of course, they are beautiful and a joy to behold!

Geoffrey, you know I always love your drawings!
Lisa, that’s a great photo with all that it entails!

And as requested, here’s my contribution to the Never-Ending Gallery.
IMG_0017.jpg
You know, I’ve always been influenced by light and shadow in making my artworks. To me they are the essence of all.

I took this photo just after sunrise as the light came through one of my twin clerestory “eyebrow” windows. I was struck by the coloured distorted shadow from my Galileo buoyancy thermometer. Yes, it is a thermometer – you can read the temperature (26 degrees C) from the lowest floating glass sphere. Its operation is based on these simple physical laws - a body floating in fluid sinks with an increase in temperature since the specific density of the fluid decreases. In reverse, a fall in temperature leads to an increase in specific density of the fluid causing the body to rise.

Btw – this photo is exactly as it was taken with no enhancement whatsoever. Nature is fascinating!
Of course, I did have to make the file smaller to be able to post it.

they are so precious, look so fragile with their thin little legs. i have been reading about them on the internet, listening to their high-piched voices and watching the way they balance and dart from twig to twig with such precision - even when it's windy :)

you certainly have an eye for art, and i don't necessarily mean my efforts. thanks to you guys, this corner of the forum is becoming an oasis of incredible images. i enjoy learning new things, love being educated - and can almost not believe this is happening. you go through life with your eyes truly open. i am being spoilt!

your thermometer picture would make an excellent pink floyd album cover. i studied it for a long while, right down to the headphones and batteries.

That is a very cool photo -- it is amazing and beautiful how the colours are reflected on the wall with the shadow! At first glance, I thought there were two thermometers.

I have one of those thermometers, although mine has fewer globes with 2 degree C gradations. It is fairly accurate with the temp (give or take a degree or two...), and it makes for an interesting decoration.

Geoffrey, that’s most observant of you to notice other items in the photo. I designed and hand-built the pottery bowl containing the batteries. What you can’t see is an electronic keyboard in the foreground to which the batteries belong to when I’m not using it via electricity. I've just noticed that a very tiny bit of the top of it is shown on the bottom RH corner. I use the headphones with it.
And part of what you see on the left hand side is a round circular suspended radio (not a clock) I bought new in the early 1970’s that is still in perfect working order today but it only receives AM radio stations :)
I also designed, painted, oven fired and set the tiles that cover the table top on which everything stands.

Lisa,
That’s a coincidence you have a similar thermometer - Good taste!

of course i notice. it's a privilege for me to see everything you share. i learn, am encouraged and inspired. whether it's lisa's frosty window, her many coloured pictures, or your david with guitar and other numerous creations too plentiful to mention. such people make one's existence in this cyber landscape fun and worthwhile. you put a lot of energy into your work, and i could certainly do with some of that.

Hey, Geoffrey, I found something in a drawer yesterday that you might like to see: a techno blast from the past (from 1995, to be precise). I really must try to do a clear-out more frequently than every ~30 years...

shame to throw this 3½-inch floppy away; it doesn't take up much space in a drawer - and it's a nostalgic keepsake. i put your photo into 'google image search', as well as looked on ebay, and discovered that although they may not yet be worth very much, people are quite interested in them. in norwegian such a vintage item would perhaps be called a 'klenodium', and are almost never seen in second-hand shops any longer. having always avoided macintosh computers, it remains a data system i am not over familiar with. i am sure, though, that if i put it into an external floppy disk station it would not be compatible with my pc.

i have some old platform games ('commander keen', 'crystal caves', 'duke nukem', etc.) on floppies in a box somewhere. i tried a while ago to play them but they were too primitive for today's advanced technology. thanks for showing me this, which i certainly did like to see! :)

Hey, Geoffrey, yeah, I thought, since you are such a computer enthusiast, that you'd enjoy seeing that old AOL floppy disk. I don't think I'll throw it away -- not yet, anyway -- as you say, it is a nostalgic keepsake! When I first started using a computer (which was not until the mid-1990s), I had a Macintosh Classic (it was given to me when its owner upgraded to a newer Mac), and I still have it tucked away in a closet. I used that Mac Classic until the year 2000, when I upgraded to a PC laptop, and I have used PCs ever since. I used the Mac Classic for word-processing (lots of it -- I had it during my University days, and I wrote many a paper on it, including a Master's Thesis -- I still have all the floppy disks with my old Uni papers on them), as well as doing email and playing Tetris (Tetris is the only computer game I ever really got into -- it was ridiculously addictive! I also had Tetris on an old Nintendo TV console, and later on my PC).

I also had (and still have) an external floppy disk drive which I used with my first PC laptop. Of course, I could not use the Mac formatted disks on my PC, but I continued to use floppy disks with my PC for awhile (and I still have them all -- I am a bit of a hoarder! ).

Cheers!

hei lisa
judging from what you write, you're something of an enthusiast yourself. i too have an external floppy disk drive, bought together with an external audio cassette station that digitises tape to harddisk. love that kind of stuff!
as for the ridiculously addictive tetris - tell me about it! i couldn't stop, reached the hectic 10th level and just carried on beyond. even when trying to sleep at night those coloured bricks kept falling down inside my eyelids.

Regarding your second rule, I do hope that you're joking and just saying that to provoke a response (because, I know that you love conflict, and everyone has been so nice around here as of late, thus maybe you just want to rock the boat!).

If you are being serious, then that is just fucking stupid.

hei lisa. yes, i too have noticed how pleasant it has become here in recent days; people joining in and sharing pictures. a good atmosphere will always be something to aim for.
i appreciate that you feel strongly about what i wrote. people do not always agree on everything, and perhaps life would be dull if they did. as long as there exists communication there exists hope. therefore i thank you for your heartfelt response :)
