Mabeanie wrote:As for "He is still a vibrant, alive, somewhat sexy, older man ..." - it was about 5 years ago now that I told a work colleague about half my age that Leonard Cohen was the one older man I would go for. Nothing's changed on that score!
Just don't get me started on this one! I could go on & on!! :D

That's got to be the understatement of the century!

umm (tongue pressed firmly in cheek), it would be pretty hard to tour otherwise ;-)

lol...thanks for catching that! I know what I meant....meaning "A-L-I-V-E", as in the wow factor.... But, oh yes, there would be a slight problem touring otherwise ;-)

Ladies, ladies and, especially you, Diana, I think it is time to start planning something very frivolous and memorable for, let´s say, Marseille /LC birthday/? And we certainly have hard act to follow /SJ/.

Great idea Vlasta! However, maybe we'd better get seats first ;-) ! I know that unfortunately there will be many who can't rearrange plans to attend in September instead of March and those seats should start opening up within the next few weeks. I'm checking every day. Sounds like you plan on attending...fabulous! And yes, we will have to start planning something...open to ideas...

The same PR was sent again today, with yesterday's date, and the Zagreb show added:
LEONARD COHEN RESCHEDULES EUROPEAN PERFORMANCES DUE TO INJURY

(For Immediate Release – February, 09, 2010) – AEG Worldwide today announced that a run of performances by Leonard Cohen have been rescheduled to allow proper time for a sports-related injury sustained by the artist to heal.

While exercising recently, Mr. Cohen suffered a compression injury in his lower back. He has been advised by physicians to follow the typical four to six month regime of physical therapy prescribed for athletes with similar injuries.

“Doctors have confirmed that Mr. Cohen is otherwise in terrific shape, thanks to years of exercise and careful diet, and simply needs appropriate time to recover from the lower back injury,” stated Cohen’s manager, Robert Kory.

The rescheduled dates below will be amended shortly to reflect all thirteen rescheduled dates:

July. 25 ZAGREB ARENA
Sept. 15 CAEN ZENITH
Sept. 17 GRENOBLE PALAIS DES SPORTS
Sept. 19 STRASBOURG ZENITH
Sept. 21 MARSEILLE LE DOME
Sept. 23 TOURS PARC DES EXPOSITIONS
Sept. 25 LILLE ZENITH GRAND PALAIS
Oct. 04 KATOWICE SPODEK
Oct. 07 MOSCOW KREMLIN PALACE
Oct. 13 BRATISLAVA INCHEBA EXPO ARENA

Since his return to the stage in May 2008, Mr. Cohen has played 191 sold out shows around the world, headlined the 2009 Coachella Music Festival and was hailed by Spin Magazine as the “Comeback of the Year” for 2009.

On January 30th, Mr Cohen received the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Special Merit Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) and was honored the following night on the Grammy Awards broadcast.

I haven't been as vigilant as I perhaps should have been, so I just found out about Leonard's injury today. I read several pages of posts but just couldn't wade thru all of them. Of course, I send my prayers and healing energy for a speedy recovery.

One thing that may have been addressed/stated in the pages of posts that I skipped over, I'd like to comment on. Some have questioned the 4 to 6 months of recovery time. I'm sure that for a much younger person, 4 to 6 months may seem a bit long and could easily be 4 to 6 WEEKS. But in spite of his energy and activity level, the fact is Leonard IS 75 yrs old. Bones become brittle with age no matter who you are or how physically fit you may be. Many people his age suffer compression fractures just sitting in an easy chair and watching TV. While Leonard has improved his eating and drinking (and substance) habits in recent years, those early years of abuse leave their marks on the body. Certainly, he can, and I'm certain WILL recover fully from this injury, but it's not going to happen over night.

Leonard, take your time. Follow your doctor's orders and get your body working to optimum performance. We need you. Your fans love you. We want to celebrate many more birthdays with you and we want to see you again and again and again! R'fuah schlema!
