That's right, it's:

If you want another kind of love
I'll wear a leather mask for you.

But the "Oh won't you be naked for me" bit is correct--it's from Please Don't Pass me By (a disgrace) from the "Live Songs" album, which is, in my opinion, Leonard Cohen's best in terms of his singing voice.

Cool!

So, so many...

My favourites, just from Everybody Knows-
"Everybody knows the war is over, everybody knows the good guys lost"

"Everybody knows the boat is leaking, everybody knows the captain lied"

"There will be a meter on your bed that will disclose ... what everybody knows."

My children's favourite-
"Everybody wants a box of chocolates and a long stem rose"

Check Death Of A Ladies Man out for humour. Remember Paper Thin Hotel? I think it may well be Leonard's most ironic album. What sat Blonde Madonna?

Well Mark, I say why hasn't anyone mentioned "Don't go home with your hard-on"?

Ah we're drinking and we're dancing
and the band is really happening
and the Johnny Walker wisdom running high..........

I saw Adam leave the Garden with an apple in his hand,
I said "Now you're out, what are you going to do?"
"Plant some crops and pray for rain, maybe raise a little cane........

"I'm cold as a new razor blade"

"I'm the little Jew who wrote the bible"

"Take me to the slaugther house, I will wait there with the lamb"

between the birthmark and the stain,
between the ocean and your open vein,
between the snowman and the rain,

and most other "in betweens" of this song

"between the peanuts and the cage" takes the prize, though.....

BUT: in the same song there are also some of his most beautiful lines:

I leave the lady meditating
on the very love which I, I do not wish to claim,
I journey down the hundred steps,
but the street is still the very same.

Huh. This caught my eye. I always thought he was saying "maybe raise a little Cain"

as in Abel and Cain....you know, the brothers in the book of Genesis?

Interesting little message board you people have here. Interesting bunch of personalities.

Hi. I'm new.

Hi Lenny4Ever ~

I just happen to be here and welcome you :D . I always took that line as an intentional pun.

Don't mean to be a spoilsport, but while Leonard arranged this song, it was written by R. Blakeslee.

Agree it is a pun, but original spelling uses the kid's name. Should be Cain, not cane.

You're right [of course ;-) ] ~ I'd forgotten that "Passing Through" wasn't written by Leonard. The lyrics posted in the Files show it as "cane," though I've always 'heard' it as "Cain." I'm guessing you mean the "original" as being the lyrics, as written by the original writer.

Even the most serious of songs has what I consider to be humour:

"Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water."
