Beccka,
Two things I forgot to say...Even though I am not a Catholic myself, I re-read the passage about the spilling of the wine last night, and realised that without any conscious thought, I had considered the wine and blood to be one and the same thing. Also, and without giving anything away, I wanted to say that there is a passage of culmination in the book where I believe that yours and your father's perspectives will find a point of convergence. All good things, John E

Hi Beccka,
The quote of Leonard's that I was trying to remember (post before last) is as follows: "I don't ever want to set myself up as an enemy of organised religion because those churches, those mosques, those synagogues, they give comfort and solace to millions and millions of people - real comfort and real solace. I don't think it serves anything or anybody to become an enemy of organised religion". I suggested this quote for the beliefs section of Jim Devlin's book "Leonard Cohen in His Own Words". Jim put me in charge of this section, but I ended up making suggestions for other
parts too. All good wishes, John E

This is an excellent quote to use, John. It serves as a useful reminder to people such as me, with whom it's an area of inconsistency.

I vote "Yes!" 8)

Hi Beccka,
I'm interested to know how your project developed, even if you felt you couldn't handle it and maybe abandoned it. Or have you perhaps put it on hold? All good wishes, John E

Wow, this sounds like a beautiful project - ive been trying to convince one of my family to read this book for ages, and they are having none of it (though they all love LC ). I hope you and your father enjoy the book as much as i did.

I hear that its been translated into Chinese, which i think is rather amusing - a book once heralded as one of the most disgusting things to come out of Canada now being introduced to one of the most closely guarded countries in the world... heh. Ill have to get my hands on THAT.

didn't read the whole thread b/c in the first post it said there would be spoilers. but i'm reading beautiful losers for the first time and i like it. its really slow reading...but alot of the descriptions are gorgeous. switching between that and mogens and other stories by jacobsen (which i think is good stuff too). with beautiful losers i'm on page 40-something.
