Hi there.

Although I'm new to this site, I'm no newcomer to poetry, nor to Leonard Cohen's poetry for that matter. Thanks for Master Poems!

And it works!

Thanks!

I send my thanks as well. My disc copy had a glitch in it, which didn't seem to want to go away, but the download worked, passed the scan test, and ! thanks. :)

Here you can download the artwork for Master Poems CD:

http://www.grembold.pwp.blueyonder.co.u ... _stuff.htm

I have the same tracklist in my CD - My Top Ten is also the passage from BLosers, read at YM-YWHA hostel in NYC 1966 (AM broadcast).

But my copy has 17th track from NYC 1966: the premiere of The Stranger Song. It is also printed on CD artwork, so...

FileFront is just a hosting site, kind of like YouSendit.com.

Does anyone know if the reading of Beautiful Losers is available for download? I have the two parts that are in the Master Poems collection; but I'd like to have the whole thing. How would I go about converting the youtube files into usable mp3's?

Geez. Don't know how to download re: mp3 - why not buy the book, which is ubiquitously supplied thru nearly every second hand bookstore I've been in...and..are you certain the whole of BL is available in spoken word...

I have the book and have read it through and through; I don't think the whole book is available in spoken word, but there is that 13 part series on youtube where he reads excerpts from it in New York in (i think 1966). It's not imperative I just think it'd be fun to have it on my ipod as well :)

Oh. Wow. I guess I best get into the 21st century. Frankly, I'm not not all that big on BL, although I do have the T-shirt :D - I find Master Poems does it for me. Good luck in your search for the MP3 uh...thingy... :D

BL is definitely a "difficult book" as LC has said :), I actually prefer The Favorite Game, but BL is so ridiculous it's good. I just like collecting anything that has Cohen's voice on it :)

Well, I'm with you there. His voice is noticeably different from his 'salad days' (if he ever really had any) and his more mature voice. I think his more mature voice to be yummier. I think what Leonard said, even in the preface to BL is 'what you hold in your hands is more like a sunstroke than a book'. Still, for many years he always said he had 'his book' (singular) as if trying to put Favourite Game behind him. Thankfully, that faze has passed. A lot of people took to Book of Longing with the Glass background, etc. But....you sound like a pro...I bet you've gone there already. ;-)

Book of Longing is among his best books, I think it really encapsulates his many facets and contradictions in the best way. really beautiful stuff. The Glass collaboration took some getting used to but now i really like it. Guess this conversation go to do a different topic now...haha

Well, at the risk of getting my fingers crimped by the mods. (you know? at one time, the mods. didn't mod. and the best topics were off topic), I'm not a big fan of Glass - I find his work plodding and repetitive. But that's just me. Therefore, I've not yet gotten into BOL. Or Book of Mercy (BOM sounds too lame). I could read the books, but if I want to hear his recitation on BOL, I guess I'll have to put up with Glass, like it or not. I should make that a summer project. I liked Favourite Game as it was pretty much a straight ahead novel. All the twinkly mysticism and words of wisdom of his later books leave me a bit frustrated. I'd much rather hear him sing all those beautiful songs he wrote. I dearly hope he's hard at work on a new album (I don't log in often enough to know - I should look at the board), I did like the new song he did on the western leg of the North American tour. So much ground to cover! If it hadn't been for your post in this thread, I probably wouldn't have logged in for quite some time. The influx of newbies, has left me longing for the 'old' board - now I'm the newbie. And I'll look for that series you mentioned in YouTube - if it's on video (which you can download), I'm pretty sure the MP3 transformation is a possibility. Thanks for opening me eyes a wee bit. After seeing him, I thought my infatuation was over, but I guess not. I really must check out the current threads.

Pip pip
Linda.
