Joe just a minor correction:
Homers Illiad and Odyssey are not balads.
They are epics.
Consisting of 24 rapsodies each that were recited
by a rhapsode http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhapsode

I don't know if there is any etymological connection
between a rapper and a rhapsode.

In any case, a modern rapper is close to an ancient rhapsode.

Yes ~ You're right, I owe Bono at least a partial apology. He's doing a very fine job with Leonard and that is to be appreciated and commended!! I wasn't there, either... so, even though the financial aspects seemed credible in the context of what was said about his not appearing at Jazzfest, it could have been a matter of scheduling or something.
