There is always something to long for and the anticipation is often more enjoyable = the journey is more enjoyable than the destination, etc., etc.,
i think that is absolutely correct, alan. couldn't have said it better myself

I have the mania of ordering things, classifying them and putting them away. I am FYS, I recognize my collector's addiction and I congratulate those that “…
feel fortunate at having escaped such an addiction”.
Collecting is something quite useless; generally solitary that does not provide recognition that does not contribute anything to society and that consumes a lot of resources: time and money. (Speaking of money, collecting can be speculative, not my case at all). If you have to move, collections are a physical problem: vinyl, CDs, books, ceramics... I have stored boxes with cassette and VHS tapes, garbage in obsolete format, that I am not able to throw away although I have almost everything digitized.
Despite that, I disagree with some things that have been said here. I give an example: I collect slot cars. I go to a specialized old market to hunt, there are quite painful freaks around, and worrisome: they look like me. I find a piece that I am looking for at a fair price. It is not a kinder egg or a surprise that I have just discovered, it is an object of desire that I have catalogued on my personal WEBSITE and I know the Formula 1 feats it represents. It may be a toy made 40 years ago. I hunt it down and take it home. I clean it, repair it (if necessary), look at it from all angles and test it on the track, trying not to damage it in a crash. I update the WEB and look for a space in the showcase, where I will continue to enjoy its presence. That is, there is pleasure before (the longing), during and after the hunt. A silly story, right
There is my Cohen stuff, also inventoried on the WEB. Although the most precious thing is the collection of photos, videos and documents of family and friends, "preserves". I keep it in a physical album and digitized on external drives with a copy in a bunker (in another place) in case a cataclysm occurs at my usual home, with or without survivors.
Some people collect flags with a date on a world map, lovers' intimate clothes or Cohen's concert list on the avatar.
The great sadness of a collector of objects is to think about the fate of his beloved collection when it is finished. Not because the collection is complete, there are collections that can never be completed, rather because the collector has finished his journey. What will the heirs do with those objects? How will some vultures benefit in the market?

What does "FYS" stand for? I Googled it, but found no suggestions that seem relevant to anything in your post.

Just a guess, but:
And all your work it's right before your eyes.
Goodnight, my darling, I hope you're satisfied,
The bed is kind of narrow, but my arms are open wide.
And here's a man still working For Your Smile
So is "For your Smile" still working ordering things, classifying them and putting them away, or trying to leave us?
He/she may reveal all some day. Until then there is longing (to find out).
Alan

Alan, I think you are correct -- I get it now, they were using the famous addict introduction ("Hi, My name is FYS and I am an addict..."). I was thinking that FYS may have stood for some kind of psychological disorder/condition, rather than "FYS" being a person suffering from one. Silly me, overthinking again.
I have absolutely no further interest in this matter! Cheers, all!

Alan, you are right, ForYourSmile, is my username and my longing for your smile. Just for that song I could be a Cohen fan. Thank you for your kind words, I'm afraid my treasures aren't that important to a foundation either
“London 1972”

Alan, that is extraordinary, how I would have liked to be there!!! My first was Barcelona 1980.
And don't worry, I accept my psychological disorders as slight nonsense

I recognise that the search is perhaps more fun than finding what you are looking for but as a long term Cohen fan I’d love to gain access to the full 67 studio sessions and 70s concerts.
I’m hoping some fellow fan can help out. Please PM me.
Thanks in advance

I'd love to hear the '67 recordings too. Didn't realize they were even captured/circulating from the little release. I sure wish they'd just put this stuff out more widely, why not at this point!

I've been looking for these recordings for a while now. So if anyone could share, I'd really, really appreciate it.

I posted this recently in another thread, but I think it's relevant to post this here. I just want to add that I do now have both the 1967 release and most of the 1972 release as well, but the person who gave that to me wants me to wait until after the new year to post any of that. That's coming up soon.

Hi, I run a music blog called "Albums That Should Exist." I'd never heard of these Cohen copyright extension albums until recently. But I found out about them mostly by stumbling onto these discussions at this forum.
I've signed up to this forum just to return the favor and say that I've found the 1970 copyright extension. I've posted three albums from it recently on my blog. You can find them here:
Royal Albert Hall, London, Britain, 5-10-1970
https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot. ... ondon.html
Berkeley Community Theatre, Berkeley, CA, 11-15-1970
https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot. ... unity.html
News from the Authorities - Non-Album Tracks (1970)
https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot. ... s-non.html
The first one is a fantastic sounding, soundboard concert. It was missing all the banter between songs, but I added in banter from a different 1970 concert (in Frankfurt, Germany) from just four days earlier. I think the mix works well, and sounds exactly like a complete concert from that year.
The Berkeley concert has a very similar set list, and the same great sound quality, but that one is without the added banter.
"New from the Authorities" is my best of selection of the studio outtakes from the 1970 copyright release. There are some great things there, especially the long missing Cohen version of his original song "Priests."
I didn't post the entire copyright release, because most of it would be for die-hard Cohen fans only, such as many slightly different takes of the same song. But I've made the whole thing available via SoulseekQT. Just search for Cohen, copyright, and 1970, and you'll probably find it there.
Furthermore, I have a lead on finding the 1967 copyright release. If all goes well, I'd like to post that on my blog in a few weeks. Knock on wood. If anyone has the 1972 copyright release, please let me know, so that can be shared too.

Sorry it took longer than expected, but I finally was able to post some of the 1967 studio outtakes today at my music blog. You can find that here:
https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot. ... cohen.html
It contains alternate versions of all the songs on the 1967 "Songs of Leonard Cohen" album, in the exact same order. There are lots of interesting differences, both lyrically and musically. Tomorrow or thereabouts, I'll be posting another album containing takes of all the songs recorded in 1967 that didn't end up on that album. I'll also be posting absolutely everything, all seven hours of every single take, via SoulseekQT.

Last night, I posted the other album I compiled from the 1967 copyright extension collection, which I call "Songs from a Store Room." You can get that here:
https://albumsthatshouldexist.blogspot. ... -room.html
It's the best takes of all the songs Cohen recorded in 1967 that didn't make it onto "Songs of Leonard Cohen." There are lots of fascinating lyrical and musical differences, so many that some of the songs have different titles.
Oh, also, I've made the entire seven hours, containing all the takes, available through SoulseekQT.
