Its not really disparaging....thats the way life goes.
Biomedical scientists use people's diseases to further their own careers.

Hi Kush ~

I believe there's a difference, in that people's diseases are their raison d'etre, germane to and part-and-parcel of, the biomedical scientists career ~ their 'purpose for being,' moreso than not. Is that not so? Isn't their primary purpose to do research and development, et al, to improve the health status of people worldwide? I'm not really seeing where exploitation of the people occurs. Now, the pharmaceutical industry is another story....but, then, doesn't your field somehow dovetail with that? So, perhaps, there's a way.

It seemed to me that since 'government tactics' was what was in question with this, that "famine" being "used" would more likely come under government tactics than singers and songwriters. However, since his writing the song might be being questioned [as he suggests], it could come under that, as well. We could always credit him with another, brilliant duality of meaning :D .

Those are very high-falutin' issues that I try to keep out of. :) Suffice to say that I do my trade and hopefully I do a decent job that may be useful to someone somewhere.

But yes, I do like LC's monologue posted by Greg - else I would not have commented so extensively on it.

Great Song..things are changing a little

Post by songbird »

I think that all of the songs about the civil rights from The 60/s and 70's are wonderful.
However things are changing. I go to a state college where many students are comparing themselves to vientam and the plight of college students from the 60's 70's. I myself do not like war, I am a peaceful person, but I have family members and loved ones who have served or who are serving the millitary (one is in Iraq right now). Any way, I feel for these students in Kent. who were shot. Things are very differnt now at William Paterson University. We had a military recruiter who was threatened by a student. (I was a witness to the event) The student was not provoked and the recruiter chose to ignore studetn who had threatened to harm him. Meanwhile, several facutly told the student to calm down and that what he was doing was harrasment. The student later was complaning about how his plight was simmilar to college students of the 60's and 70's.
I told him to listen to some Crosby Stills Nash and Young and Bob Dylan and then get back to me.
I loved you for your beauty that doesn't make a fool of me,
You were in it for your beauty too.

While pursueing your dreams, confront your nightmares.

People hold on to the past, because they are afraid of the future.
