He admitted worrying in advance there might be Len fatigue but ended up loving it. Hardly any filler, perfect sound and easily as good as his famed Kilmainham 08 appearances was the verdict- high praise indeed! I was in tweet contact with him after and he did say Lissadell were the only irish dates he has missed so wasn't in a position to compare those majestic shows to last night. Oh- he also observed there were banks of seats empty in the O2 last night apparently. Far from a sell out it seems unfortunately.
Not doubting above report but I did not see any empty seats last night but from what I saw the place didn't fill until after show started. Incidentally, the shoes itself was magic

Here's a link to Leif Bodnarchuck's blog - Old Ideas Tour — Sep 11, Dublin

EXCERPT:
As the crowd enter the arena, the set drapes are bathed in a tricolour of light, the green, white and gold of Ireland’s flag. Astute and savvy readers will know that to set a scene like this ‘up north’ would cause a bit of a stir, but we’re in the republic, and our lighting designer’s name is Ryan Patrick Murphy; I think the geographical and genealogical factors sum easily in this instance.

It's true that there were some seats still available at the very back.

I always enjoy a Leonard Cohen concert and this was one of the best! There were so many highlights but to mention only 3 it would be Chelsea Hotel, If It Be Your Will and Famous Blue Raincoat. But everything was perfect, the lighting and sound and video. A superb band of musicians and singers accompanied Leonard and Leonard himself was in fine voice. A fantastic 3 hour show!

Amazing concert tonight. Will write all about it in my review in the next couple of days but just want to write a note about the new song I've Got A Secret which was performed tonight. When Leonard started singing I immediately recognised some of the lyrics but at the time couldn't place them. So I Googled them and then I understood why. They are some of the lyrics from the version of Feels So Good performed in Toronto last year (I'm not sure if this was performed anywhere else). There is a couple of videos of that performance on YouTube and it was the first verse and the verse which mentions a kitchen which were in the new song tonight. After only one listen tonight I can't say if any of the other verses are included but can say that the words feels so good were not there! The melody while having a jazz feeling was different to both versions of Feels So Good.
It was amazing hearing this tonight.

Amazing concert again tonight, we have ran out of superlatives.
Here's a couple of snaps of the great man, looking like he was enjoying himself as much as we did..

Hi Gwen,

'Feels so Good' was also performed during the San Jose concert, November 2009.

Looking forward to your report on the Dublin concert!

What a wonderful concert and it was lovely to see the Irish President enjoying another concert. I loved Leonard's obvious happiness at the response to I've got a little secret and it was wonderful to hear him finish with " Save the Last Dance for me " again. I'd heard him sing it in Brighton for the first time and it's such a beautiful version of a song which I'm much more used to hearing Country and Western singers cover.
Leonard expressed his joy at the audience uniting in song with him and it really did seem heartfelt. Does anyone remember the exact words?
Leonard is such a master of understatement as shown in his short reference to Ireland's history, it reminded me of his emphasis on Belfast being a peaceful city and the rapturous response it received.
Maybe I've been spoilt by the indoor concerts but they seem so much easier on the band that Sligo and Kilmainham were.

There were at least 2 versions of Feels So Good of which the "original" was performed many times in 2009/2010 but the 2nd one to my knowledge was only performed in Toronto last year although I stand to be corrected on that!

ah Albert, you are an international treasure :D

....and from your again excellent video, I have transcribed the words. I think they are correct but if anyone hears differently please say so.

I’ve Got A Little Secret

I’ve got a little secret
If you promise not to tell
I said, I’ve got a little secret
You got to promise not to tell
I made a date in heaven
But I’ll be keepin’ it in hell

I’d like to hold you baby
But my arms are old and weak
I’d like to hold you baby
But my arms are old and weak
I was listenin’ to your story
But I guess I fell asleep

I’ve got a little secret
If you promise not to tell
I said, I’ve got a little secret
Got to promise not to tell
I made a date in heaven
Oh, but I’ll be keepin’ it in hell

(Mitch’s guitar)

I’d like to love you baby
But it don’t feel right
I’d like to love you baby
It just don’t feel right
I’ve got this full length mirror
And it ain’t no pretty sight

I’d like to, like to love you baby
It just don’t feel right
I’d like to love you, love you baby
It just don’t feel right
I’ve got this full length mirror
It ain’t no pretty sight

(Neil’s organ)

It’s kind of chilly in your kitchen
And I think it’s gonna snow
It’s kind of chilly in your kitchen
And I believe it’s gonna snow
I need to leave you baby
Oh, but there’s no where else to go

You see, I’ve got a little secret
If you promise not to tell
I got, I got a little secret
You’ve got to promise not to tell
I made a date in heaven
Oh, but I’ll be keepin’ it in hell

EDIT: Zimmer,
Absolutely excellent photos of Leonard!!

EDITED again to correctly delete "don't" in the line in red which is now correct.
