At this time it looks like a safe bet that when next week's charts are released Leonard will be no. 2 in the UK (behind Lana Del Ray) and no. 3 in the US (behind Adele and Del Rey). Not too shabby!

After suffering for so many years of people responding to me, "Leonard who?", I am delighted to respond to this news with, Lana who?
Never heard of her.

Thanks for the news, Tineke!
Does anyone know an easy way to track recent chart publications?

Just to clarify a bit: the record broken here is the same as in Holland, he's (by far, because Springsteen was only 60) the oldest artist to make it to #1.

Never heard of her.

Arlene: I have to say when I saw that Lana Del Ray was competing with Leonard my reaction was exactly the same as you, WHO, I had neither heard nor heard of her

Since then I had a quick look and though she can unquestionably sing, she doesn't particularly impress me, the constant changes of style within one song can be a bit distracting from the words she is actually singing and I lost interest. Sometimes she sounded a bit like Stevie Nicks, but not as good. Still, she is still young and we will see as time goes by. Pity she let 'them' get at her lips, I am sure they looked better before the 'enhancements'.
Today:
Leonard No. 1 on Amazon.co.uk
Leonard No. 2 (to Lana) Play.com (Leonard is Artist of the Week on Play.com)
Leonard No. 2 (to Lana) HMV
Leonard No. 10 !! on iTunes (I think their maths must be a bit suspect)
The official charts aren't published here until Sunday, so we shall see, but it looks like Lana might have it.

Lana del Rey was the hype du jour for a short while with the (pretty strong) single Video Games. Unfortunatly she turned out to be quite the one trick pony and critics everywhere are pretty much panning her full length debut. Everyone will have forgotten about her within 3 years.
Still, Old Ideas is performing a lot better in the charts than Cohens previous 2 albums. Probably has a lot to do with his world tour but this album seems to be marketed quite intensively as well.
