i gather there is an "early entry" for Forum fans at 6:30 p.m., which some folks may want to attend (apparently sometimes members of the band have shown up for this, tho, so far as I know, LC has not).

because i don't know philly and thus far haven't really gotten indications of much interest in a meet-up aside from those publicly posted,

either

a) a local who is willing to do some organizing should pick a downtown restaurant for locals and visitors and we can see who shows (probably for about 4:45-5 p.m. or so)

or

b) "early entry" could substitute for a meet up

there ain't much time left, folks--absent a local willing to do the work for a) it looks like b) or, of course,

c) folks can just show up for the concert, which based on the previous four i've gone to should be terrific

Fair play to you Bob, it's hard to pick somewhere with no local knowledge.. I am easy..

Somewhere downtown en route might be good? If we were getting the 21 bus that goes down Walnut St to the venue we could pick a place near Walnut Street? I used Lorraine's link to look at places near Walnut Street.. A place called Butcher and Singer caught my eye!! I thought the name was so apt! But reviews suggest it might be a bit pricey and people may prefer something more cheap and cheerful after splashing out so much on tickets... But there are plenty of places around there we could pick if someone wants to stick their neck out.

Lorraine I will be coming from New York so I don't even know if I go near any of those pickup points you mentioned..? I guess not... What time will you be arriving?

Trish/Bob - where are you staying in Center City. Butcher & Singer is expensive.

Do you like Chinese? There is a good Chinese Restaurant around 16th & Walnut called "The Wok" - reasonably priced

1613 Walnut St
Philadelphia, PA 19103-5402
(215) 751-9990

Here is a pretty good restaurant on Walnut - around 11th and Walnut. Called Caribou Cafe - French cuisine - but reasonable.

There is an Olive Garden one block north - across from Macys -
Olive Garden

******
McCormick & Schmick's Seafood (love this place - excellent - fresh fish - new menu every day). Located at Broad & Market - about 3 blocks from Walnut St - near Macys & Borders Books.

********

There are a lot of restaurants on Broad Street - like at Broad & Walnut - probably more pricey

This place is good - an "upstairs" place - the food is good - a pub

i vote for caribou or olive garden (the latter has very good refillable salads with entrees, not to mention refillable raspberry lemonades, the menu choice is quite wide and the prices very reasonable). i don't know anything about the former but french is usually tres bon.

let the voice of the people be heard: "the people, in eating, will never be defeating!"

trish,
If you are taking the train from NYC, you will be stopping in Hamilton and Trenton. I would be more than happy to pick you up at either station-Hamilton is safer though. It would take at least an hour (depending on traffic) to get to the Tower. The Hamilton station is ten minutes from my house so whenever your train arrives I'd be there. Or if you're taking the bus, that's not too far from my house either. Let me know. Lorraine

Hi Bob
Olive Garden sounds fine to me... Now to pick a time! I PM'd you Bob - don't know if you saw my message yet - just in relation to what time you are getting into Philadelphia. I presume you want to go to the Will Call?

Hi Lorraine
That is fine re the train station. I will check out train times tomorrow. Will PM you now.

Can't believe we'll be at it at this time in two night's time. I'm recharging the batteries for the camera as we speak :)

hi trish. i like olive garden so i'll go there at 4:45 p.m., but we may be only a very few (if the restaurant poster comes that would make three!) as i haven't heard from anyone else. people tell me i look like jerry garcia, although i recently had to give a talk deep in the heart of texas and trimmed my beard & hair back a bit in hopes of getting out of there alive (which i did, barely). anyway, i'm 5'6', medium build, black wire-rimmed-type glasses, grey beard & mustache, semi-long, semi-curly hair which i see as a very attractive light blond but which others insist upon seeing as grey. i'll be wearing jeans and a dark blue (almost black) long-sleeved corduroy shirt (or, if it's chilly out, a dark blue jacket). i need your description, trish, which you can PM me if you'd prefer. anyone else interested, please post here or PM me before 9 p.m. wednesday evening (eastern standard time) to facilitate determining how big a table we need to ask for, etc.

in any case, enjoy the concert!

Hi Sturgess I never got back to your question, I just noticed. Yes staying in the city centre - Rittenhouse Square. Have looked at the map of the city centre a few times, I have to say the street names are so cute. Love the theme of naming some streets after trees... They are really lovely. Looking forward to the trip there and hopefully seeing some lovely fall colours on the way (in keeping with the tree theme) :)

for all interested, a small group will have a meetup at the olive garden (see previous posting for details of location) in downtown philadelphia at 4:45 tomorrow, thursday, 10/22/09, allowing plenty of time to get to the concert site (concert at 8, early entry at 6:30; regular doors open at 7), which is reachable by subway from downtown. we'll be at the table reserved for goldstein. if you know you want to come, please PM me or post ASAP (by 10 p.m. EST wed. 10/21/09) so we can adjust table size.

goldstei - you can take the subway (I think it is called the Market Frankford train) - and maybe you have checked the schedule, etc. (I have never used it).

But - there is a "21" bus that runs along Walnut Street, and the last stop is 69th Street - one block from the Tower Theatre. An easy ride.

Well as much as I'd like to join you, I think I may have to park myself at the restaurant/bar right beside the Tower...that is, if it is still there. A last minute whim has me flying into Philly tomorrow and in search of a ticket. I'm not sure how the venue shift will play out for tix, but I have been lured by the prospect of seeing Lenny in a venue where I have seen so many favourites in the past.

I'm all in for something after the show either way.

Cheers,
Ken(adian)

Bob, I will be picking up Trish at the train station and waiting while she checks into her hotel. Where is the Olive Garden located? I'll be there. Lorraine

That is great. Maybe we can meet you at the will call or else after the show. I, for one, won't want to go straight home after the gig! I'll PM you our details.
Don't imagine you will have a problem getting a ticket. Good on you taking in an extra show.

Philadelphia, here we come!
